Roman Pavlyuchenko, Bonders and some loose ends in need of a tie

Well howdy. How’s tricks? LB is officially in the Bakery. She is wandering around as we speak. Well, I say wandering, purposefully striding from one side of my field of view to the other and then back again is more like it, and each time with an object in her hands and place to put it in mind. It’s not a girlfriend any more. She has become a nesting machine. It’s awesome sight to behold. I canceled my plans for the evening to make sure I was here to help. I’m doing nothing. In fact, I’m eating a well buttered, toasted bagel. And watching. But let’s leave LB to her flurry of clothing, fury of dusters and mumblings of storage. There’s dealings afoot.

The more time goes on the more convinced I become that Keano’s going nowhere and the sale of Peter Crouch to Happy Harry’s only adds further credence to the growing sense of warmth. Better still, were the words of Crazy Gus which I received via Twitter from the Yid of the Norf - loving this instant news thing - that ran…

“We can’t afford to let Robbie go. We have lost Jermain Defoe and, hopefully, Dimitar Berbatov will stay. If we lost Robbie it would be too much.”

Whether Gus has any kind say in the matter is another question but I just love his turn of phrase. I’m not sure if he knows how powerful his words are or Spanish is just a very plain and passionate language but he’s dead right. If we lost Robbie, it would be too much.

So, so far so good on Keano. One starts to question whether Dimitar the Great is going to leave as well but as Wolf says in Pulp Fiction, let’s not start sucking each others dicks just yet. In the mean time, the press has been convinced that we’re looking for a replacement in the form of a large Russian with the equally large name of Roman Pavlyuchenko who apparently impressed in the Euros. He did? I remember the Arshavin praise but Roman Pavlyuchenko? It all sounds a bit like we’re after Rebrov when we should be buying Shevchenko.

All the same, we should probably know that Pavlyuchenko is 26 years old, plays for Spartak Moscow, is a sturdy 6′2″ and has a rather impressive goal tally of around one every other game for his club and country. Here’s his head

…um, yeah. A lot of wrong stuff going on in that one.

The thing is, that maybe that’s the part that counts (not his head). He does just seem to bag them in. I’m not saying the Russian league is that hot but if he can score in whatever game you put him in, then that’s a very good sign. Take a look

…not the most thrilling footballer but there’s no denying he’s a poacher and, like the best, he just always seems to be there.

The story is that we’ve had a £10m offer rejected by Spartak Moscow and, according to the Mirror, the club general director, Sergei Shavlo said:

“We have received two offers. One of them is from an English team.

“Since it’s not a team playing in European Champions League we are more likely than not to reject their offer.”

And that strikes me as odd on a couple of fronts. Yes, it does look like us - an English team not in the CL, but then there are 16 of those. The odd part is that the club has rejected the offer and not the player. Just because we’re not in the CL, it doesn’t mean that Roman doesn’t want to come to us - not unless he says so. Perhaps he might be attracted by the idea of living in London and all the richness that that entails, such as not spending your winter in -40 degrees C, and playing on snow covered pitches - you know, small things like that, not to mention the money.

If we really do want him - which I am beginning to doubt - then I’m sure we could just add a mill or two and receive a very different response, if at least one from the player himself.

The reason I’m beginning to doubt this offer is because it came from reports in the Mirror, who, I’m very sorry to say, look to have been well wide of the mark on the Chimbondabonda story that popped up yesterday. It seems the red top paper started a bit of a whopper that our bouncing full-back was on the verge of an £8m move to Valencia but not so says sporting director Juan Sanchez.

“We have made no move at all for that player.”

A man of few words but important ones nonetheless.

I’m actually glad it’s not true. As one of the few Bonders appreciaters out there I’m happy to see him stay. Yeah, we’ve got Hutton but Pascal is still good back up and decent defensive cover on the whole. The “I’m sorry to say” was over the loss of the Mirror as a trustworthy source.

Damn it, I hate this no time business. Where did my life go?

The Bentley deal is still on. The only trouble is that Slackburn want £17m. Apparently we’re throwing every player we can at them to soften the blow, from Sergie Bent and Robbo to Little Aaron, and word is that every other club is doing the same. Switch in Liverpool and Pennant, Villa and…whoever they want to get rid of. Somehow, I’ve a feeling it’s a cash only proposition, so here’s a question for you: If Michael Carrick is worth that kind of money, is David Bentley?

Last for today is the fact that we’ve sold Tommy Forecast to the Saint. Ah, and he had such a good name too. Never even got to go “Tommy, what’s the forecast; Tommy, Tommy, what’s the forecast” and the whole host of terrace based weather/name humour.

The deal went through yesterday but it’s been revealed to day that Tommy’s move down south puts and end to our payment for BALE!BALE!BALE!. We’d given them £5m upfront but have no written off the other half of the money. I can see how the deal was too good to refuse. I’d been a little confused after Forecast had admitted that we didn’t want to let him go. Let’s hope it’s not £5m we live to regret.

Enough, enough. I’m going. Adieu.

You wanna see him sprayed all over that bagel, baby? Now where’s the President?

The Bagel.

Hope we not interested. Not only does he look like Cameron Diaz, he plays like her too. If Gus is hoping Barba will stay then why would we be looking for a replacement? I smell poo, and it’s not Oi Oi.

  2. SouthLondonYid Says:

    Berba.

  3. Ali the Yid Says:

Bent might be part of a Bentley deal, if so, another striker would help

  4. jayne Says:

Have you forgotten our crap defence from last season so quickly, Ali, ?

  5. Lily White Yank Says:

Bent isnt garbage… he’s just not really any better than Jermaine Defoe was. I certainly hope that we have at least 2 strikers in surplus of Keano and Berba, I suppose Pekhart would be one of them, but who knows if he will pan out. I still miss not having Mido around anymore.

  6. sputnik Says:

Crystal Palace eh! a mine of comedy classics this week!

I haven’t stopped laughing since hearing of Ashley-Paul Robinson pasting his thoughts of his impending transfer to Fulham on Facebook to an open audience of over 250000 people!

“Ashley-Paul is goin fulham on monday. If i pull dis off im on dis ting.”
“Ashley-Paul is travling 2 Bath With Fulham Fingers Crossed.”

then there’s Simon Jordan drying his eyes today as we’ve pillaged Bostock off him for just £700K! - “who has captained his country at Under-17 level, who is perceived to be one of the best youngsters in the country and is being chased by Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea”.
“We had a £900,000 offer from Chelsea when he was 14 which we turned down. It’s beyond me and it makes me question why I bother with football. I have an academy who have produced a world-class footballer for someone else and got paid two-and-sixpence for it”

    Brilliant!

  7. oog Says:

Hmmm. I actually agree with Simon Jordan. It probably is a travesty of justice. Although better a travesty that Spurs benefit from than a travesty that they don’t!

May you all be on dis ting. Peace.

  8. Yid of the Norf Says:

Who’s replacing the little yiddo? We still haven’t replaced him yet. Is Pekhart ready for stepping up to the challenges of the premiership?

  9. steaduk Says:

i dont think perkhert is quite ready i think he might feature this season but bit part. im still not sure about bent it was always gonna be hard for him to break into the squad, i think any striker would struggle to hold down a first team place above keane and berbatov they work very well together. i still belive one defender and two midfielders away from having great chance to do something great this season

  10. Wilson Says:

Don’t do that oog you sound like most of my 6th form lol

  11. Ali the Yid Says:

jayne, my point was that we need three strikers to seriously compete. In the back Bail is looking fit, Woody and Hutton are solid and King looks like he’s going to be up for at least few important games if he’s rested. Gunther and Gilberto may figure as well. Having Gomes behind them will also make a big difference. Chimbo and Dawson should be released. And, if he does not go to Fullham on Loan, O’Hara should never be forced to play defense again. Poor lad.

What we really need is a defensive midfielder!!!

  12. The Cage Says:

Really do not see us choosing to change the strikers at all. They are the only part of the team that properly functions and we cannot be forced to sell any of them. Only potential fly in the ointment is a club like the russians in west london that operate without normal financial constraints or true giants like Bara and Madrid. But that is unlikely and imo if anything was going to happen though it would have already. With Berba/Keane/Modric/Gio the goals will come and if we sign a quality DM and cover for CD then the goals conceded column will look more healthy too.

  13. Brownpants Says:

Guys, dont get your hopes up about Tomas Pecker, a friend of mine works behind the scenes at spurs lodge and he assures me that Pecker is pony. He is 6ft 4 but cant jump and rarely wins headers aganst defenders much shorter than him. Im really not holding out much hope for the lad at spurs, but lets hope he proves me wrong eh…
Looks as though Luis Garcia is ours for 9m from Espanyol…?

  14. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    Cage

Good moniker! I take it that you are an old skool Shelfsider?

    I still miss that place.

Good post. You hit the nail on the head. We need to be more solid in the middle of the team. Maybe Hudd will play a deeper role and sit just in front of the back 4? Ramos must rate him to get a new deal.

Let’s hope we can hang on to Berbatov and Keane. If it aint broke… blah blah!

  15. Oi oi Says:

“If it aint broke… blah blah!” ????

If it ain’t broke then why were you sitting in the bottom half of the table last season ?

I wonder how loyal players will be unless a reversal of fortune takes place. Over the last 2 seasons you have moved backwards at an alarming rate despite the millions spent (£60M?).

    2005-2006 - 65 pts
    2006-2007 - 60 pts
    2007-2008 - 46 pts

The capture of the lesser of the domestic cups a blip in an otherwise downward spiral. While that cup allows a certain spin to be made to the current situation, history tells us it’s unlikely to be repeated.

A reliance on a shaky defence, containing 2 injury prone players as it’s mainstay, a less that reliable midfield missing key elements of skill, pace and strength, and no real options up front would mean a repeat of this downward spiral and an end to the fortunate MJ years.

In all reality you are likely to end up 4th next season, just like last season when west ham, chelsea and the Mighty Arsenal bettered you in the league. Yep, the forth best team in london.

  16. Hornchurch Yids Says:

I was referring to our forward line you soppy Scum cunt.

    Now fuck off!

  17. Oi oi Says:

    I wasn’t.

  18. SouthLondonYid Says:

I was wrong. That smell of poo WAS OiOi. Mate, you talk so much shit we can smell you before we hear you. As you are a gooner, we are all aware that you know shit about shit and less about football. Stop trying to prove it to us. What a Loser.

  19. steaduk Says:

arsanal finalay signed nasri good player he is a kind of arsanal player i suppose. oi oi if you know any thing about football not from a gooner point of view but some one who enjoys football! you must admit the spurs team depending if they stay fit (woodgate/king) have a good chance to battle you for 4th or 3rd we can talk about some injury prone players rvp rosicky eduardo… yes we have had a blip main reason is carrick! we buit our team around him. we have not been able to fill this void and also a few dodgy signings along the way has not helped this is the season of love i feel it

  20. steaduk Says:

oh yeah 5 1 still hurts i suppose

  21. The Futures Bright, the futures lillywhite Says:

    Well said Steaduk!

  22. SouthLondonYid Says:

Spot on Steaduk. Hopefully in Modric, we have finally replaced Carrick. He seems to share the same forward passing ability as him.

  23. mitch Says:

    RedRum,

You took great offense regarding my last post about Rafa.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh on him, and I know that some players he brought in (Torres) are quality (despite certain players like Arbeloa being very overrated).

Now, it appears we have bought one of the players that I thought was more flair than substance - Luis Garcia.

Believe me I have respect for Liverpool and all the historic success they have achieved. U just think that Rafa has been a bit of a disappointment, especially this year.

With all due respect to the Liverpool team that has underachieved since he took over (with the exception of the Champion’s League in 2005), what is your fair take on Luis Garcia?

  24. mitch Says:

“I just think Rafa has been a bit of a disappointment” - sorry

  25. mitch Says:

By the way, Oi Oi, I hope that Arsenal can continue to riddle their corporate pitch (United Arab Emirates Stadium) with their bullshit football for years to come.

They certainly have some great haircuts (notably Bakari Sanga) and it will be a pleasure to watch them not be able to defend and get injured this year.

Good luck with your pitiful side!!

  26. TobytheYid Says:

So with bids for Keane and Berbatov all over today’s papers - would it not be a bit fucking disastrous if we were to lose both our first choice strikers??
Even with who-ever we would buy, I just can’t see the logic in less than 6 months offloading our entire strike force. GRRRRRR!

  27. Oi oi Says:

That ‘pitiful’ side still managed a decent challenge last year, more than can be said for the 6puds.

I dont agree that you have a team that can challenge, I think you had your chance and blew it, the is a huge chasm in class between the top 4 and the rest and I fail to see you have done anything to bridge that gap.

New manager, new players and new hopes have arrived, however, I still see you competing with the likes of man city / wigan / blackburn etc for the minor mid table places - again.

Might as well enjoy this seasons european adventures, they might be the last for some time.

  28. steaduk Says:

ha ok “there is a huge chasm in class between the top 4 and the rest” well player for player we dont look so far behind almunia or gomes, hutton or sanga, king or gallas, woodgate or senderos, or whoever fills in there bale or clichy, lennon or nasri, gilberto there no flamini any more or huddlestone, modric or fabregas, dos santos or rosicy, keane or rvp, adebyor if hes there or berbatov i dont think the teams are not as clear cut as you think the fact is the last 2 times our great teams met we played you of the field! i kno because your a complete retard with no life so you post of forums to get some kind of reaction your probably jerking off you sick basterd! sorry got caught up in the momment there are players from our team you would want hell you tried to sign bale before us and theres players wed like i think it will be close this season thats why your tryin to say no you wont finish near us at all.keep telling your self it and about how much better your team, stadium your coffee mugs. but i can see your getting worried i think other teams are noticing that were building a good team hense liverpool trying to buy robbie keane its just to unsettle the player! keane does not support liverpool hes celtic fact thankyou john barnes football thursday or when ever on 5

  29. Oi oi Says:

Looks like you overdid the grammar there steaduk.

Anyhow, no I dont think man for man your are anywhere near us, if you were then you would at the top of the table, and your not.

Beyond a joka cola cup win against our reserves, 6puds got beaten off the pitch to the tune of 6 points last season, so I dont see how you claim 6puds ‘played you of the field’.

You cant compare modric against Cesc, Cesc has proved his ability in the league for 4 seasons now, your new boy hasn’t even pulled a shirt on yet, even when he does, I doubt he would have the same vision, strength and tackling ability as our midfield warrior. bale may be able to take a free kick, but he doesn’t have the pace of Clichy or the defensive composure, huton vs Sagna - now I know your having a laugh, I could go on and on, maybe I will.

The facts are there to see, a huge chasm in class, points and therefore league position is proof enough.

You choose to ignore the FACTS if you will, most myopic and deluded 6puds fans do.

  30. SouthLondonYid Says:

Huge chasm in class? You only scraped a win at the emirates against a hugely understrength spurs team you dick. Didn’t we draw at anfield - 92nd minute equaliser from torres, drew with utd - 94th minute equaliser from tevez/dawson, 4-4 draw with chavski, plus 2-1 win in a cup final. Funny how you only remember when ar5ena1 are understrength. Spurs never been able to put a full strength team out against you n you haven’t managed a 5-1 win - your bullshit fans walking out hideously early. You also forget your magic fabregas played in that humiliation, AND keane n berba were only on the pitch half an hour longer than adebayor. I guessed you missed all this whilst you were losing your virginity to your fuckin dad (also an ar5ena1 fan).

  31. Wilson Says:

Good article on the Spurs website about their first days in Spain. The pictures are good but if you look for than 2 minutes then I’d be suspicious…

  32. Dude Says:

Wilson i was thinking the same thing.lol

  33. Pandy Says:

At least Keano looks happy in those pics… not sure whether is the fact he’s with his spurs mates or the fact they are all half-naked and groping each others wet bodies…

  34. TobytheYid Says:

    Well this may contradict that…
    http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_3810872,00.html

I will be expecting a top fucking notch replacement if we have top lose Keane. But I still don’t quite get why we would even consider selling.

  35. Yid of the Norf Says:

I still think that Keano will be in a Spurs shirt come the start of the season & the whole move to the scousers will be arsewater. I’m not saying that benitez is not interested in Robbie, I just think he will stay with us on the basis that he’s settled at The Lane, we’re looking more & more promising season upon season, so why would he want to even consider returning to his unsettled, nomadic days of his early career

While I’m on the subject of arsewater, oui oui, you’re still spouting the same, regurgetated tosh which has long lost what little comedic value it once had. I’ll tell you again, you’re letting yourself down with this lack of material, your delivery was never that good, nor was your timing. But I’m sure with practice you can summon up some meagre offering of the gooner primitive humour that just about manages to tickle the funny bone of the rest of the football following public

  36. TobytheYid Says:

    Santa Cruz. Really?
    http://blogs.notw.co.uk/sport/2008/07/berbatov-to-uni.htmla Cruz.

  37. RedRum Says:

    Mitch

Nah i didnt take offence mate but i did disagree with what you said. Obviously not every buy has (or can - lets face it) been a resounding success from Spain (although I do think Arbeloa will come good, maybe!) but I’d say the majority have been and Rafa has been quick to discard any failures

I do agree with you in that I have been dissapointed in our progress since the Big Cup win in that I was expecting us to be challenging for the league by now tho.

As for Garcia, I loved him and loathed him in equal measure tbh. In some games he was sublime and scored some very important goals for us, especially in the Champo League (Chelsea, Juventus etc). In other games, however, he can be incredibly frustrating - when he tries to do 3 step-overs in our own half when all he needed to do was pass the fucking ball - or completely anonymous.

Saying that, he was a fan favourite and a lot of people were sad to see him go. I’ll think he’ll be good for you lot, he plays the way Spurs like to play, and has a lot of tricks to entertain the crowd with.

I’ll certainly be wishing him luck at WHL, except when you play against us!

  38. The Cage Says:

Hornchurch - yep, stood practically everywhere on the shelf over the years. Would be great to have the old ground back for just one game so everyone could experience it. Not sure what they would make of it though.
Think you are right about Ramos rating Hudd and a DM would make us more solid too. These papers are ripping into us at the moment, full of rubbish about Keane/Berbatov, time to don our Tin Hats I think :) So long as Levy stands firm we have a good season to look forward to.

  39. Oi oi Says:

Sorry, but I’m not a 6puds plaything - I’m not here to entertain, my purpose is to pour scorn on your very dreams and append reality to your own dream of global domination.

I deal in facts, bespoke to my arguments. These facts pertain to the break-up of MJ’s team and the ambitious gambles made by Ramos toward the future, and towards it’s impending failure.

  40. Oi oi Says:

    ‘The Cage’

I have your same optimism, but the game has changed for all fans. Whether we wish for glories to return, or simply to reclaim the working classes game from the freeloaders and/or part time masses, it would appear that the game has gone and left us forever.

The one thing that remains is the animosity felt between rivals, the one feeling that surpases all monetary and players’ values.

I’d meet each and every person on this site, but the meeting would be quick and formal, quickly degenerate into a difference of opinions and we would each leave the respective place with the same initial outview.

We’re it not for the mutual animosity we all feel, I would have left the game behind as a byline to my weekends, and show it as much passion as I could the egg chasers, tennis, darts, snooker, etc etc.

I’m glad I’m hated on here - it shows that in our small way we can remind ourselves how important our role is within the game, and how little the powers that be can affect it. ‘When saturday comes’ will cease to be, our most venomous games will be played on tuesday afternoons to suit the advertisers and program makers, but still, you have gained 7 months banter from your pathetic little victory, and I have gained 7 months retorts remind you of how little it matters.

Roll on next season with each of us having our own ambitions, and each to his own level of ambition, were 6puds to reach 4th place next season, you be overwhelmed, were the Mighty Arsenal to do the same I would be underwhelmed.

But show me another 6 points like last season, and I’ll be happy till the next time we do it.

  41. mitch Says:

You paint an interesting picture about the state of football and its followers. I find it hard, however, to take seriously your comments about what would make you happy considering you have to antagonize other fans on another team’s blog to get your jollies off.

You must be a lonely, lonely man, Oi Oi.

  42. Dude Says:

You hit the nail on its head mitch! Koi koi needs to get a life.. Shame.

  43. webman Says:

theres an arsenal blog by the name of gunnerblog. its run by a bunch of clowns that constantly take the piss out of this site and supporters. Theres 5 or 6 guys that only ever seem to post there. why dont you guys all go on and put them in their place. theyre a pathetic bunch of biggots

  44. dude Says:

    Its tabloid mayhem today.LoL

  45. Wilson Says:

“Gomes has been brilliant, a great personality and I’ve loved working with him and it’s the same with Ben. It’s a great team to work with.”

So the elusive Brazilian has joined us finally, I was a bit confused as to what was going on with him…

  46. The Futures Bright, the futures lillywhite Says:

Really liking those pics from Spain. The boys look like there working hard and fingers crossed we’ll have a good pre-season.
