I don't know what we need Toby. I think you are right about getting a top flight midfielder but they arent really growing on trees. Maybe if Jermaine Jenas decides to show up to play he can be the great midfielder we overpaid for so long ago. Other than that I dont know. We did miss Carrick this year, but that money (and Berba) were fantastic.

T'is a shame Lennon is out of the Brazil game. Would have been interesting to see him play against his secret country of origin...Let's just hope this knee problem doesn't turn into another one of those annoying 'niggling' injuries that don't go away.

I hadn't.

As a non-season ticket holder, probably a minority on this site - I always felt that we had 3 problems this last season:
1) Cover for the left back. Never looked great when we were full stregnth.. Enter mr. Bale.
2) Cover for central defence... Gardner ok... but we are all talking about going for top 4...
3) Despite Jol's fetish..a truly world class midfielder (tell me I'm wrong, please) We have some 'good' midfielders, but really, like Berbatov, we surely need someone who is a cut above to challenge for the top 4, and the consistency that entails...???

I'm taking the long (12 hr) flight back from Mauritius on wednesday morning - sorry for mentioning it once or twice (or 5 times).

The one thing that struck me, in an Island that supports the 'big four', is the promise that Spurs now hold... ALL the locals mentioned how 'Spurs were coming up'... I mean really, surely, after all the 'false dawns', we are now in a position to make a differtence, no?

Let's remember that until Chelski happened, it was the 'big three'... It is now or never...

People once said that about Everton, but we have greater quality than them, If we are to really make an IMPACT, the time is next season..but, Gareth Bale aside, what (or who) do we really need for a season long campaign that will only (let's be honest) be a real move forward if we win silverware OR a top 4 place??

(yes I have had a few cocktails been thinking about this, sorry)

Not seen him play, but, I think Bale is a really good signing. We were only short this season because of out left side. Weve had stop gaps but no proper out and out lefties, we are half way there.

I'm just hoping Martin comes out with a blinder of a midfielder, grabs an unknown out of the bag. In all honesty who had heard of Berba 2 years ago?

Yea but that was in the Sun wasn't it? I don't believe anything they say about Berbatov or anything player related to be honest so it would be mighty contradictorary of me to believe this one.

Talking about possible transfers, have you read Samuel Eto'o's interview in the Mirror (joke!)? My perception of him used to be 'arrogant prick' but this interview has changed that somewhat. He sums up most English fans pretty well by saying, ' They are so positive in supporting their own team rather than, as happens in Spain, being against the opposition'...hasn't played against The Arse then.

I read an article earlier about an alleged £60m kitty and license to let rip this window. We've got big signing no.1 in the bag, four to go and we'll be gate crashing the Big Four like scousers at a cup final.

Gigss has still got a good few seasons in him, don't think he'l quite do a Teddy Sheringham but I can see him playing well into his late 30's.

I'm usually optimistic when it comes to transfer rumours regarding Spurs but just can't see this one happening, mainly for the reasons pointed out by The Bagel.

Interesting rumour revolving around Spurs holding a meeting with Sporting Lisbon regarding Nani. However, I feel if Man USA make a move then we can forget it straight away

Since when have Man USA been our transfer rivals time after time anyway?? Does this mean we are finally of the status where we can seriously compete with the Giants of the Prem for players?...nah probably not.

Yet.

Funny, a silmiar bottle ended up in the Thames. I fished it out with two baguettes used like chopsticks and it too talked of Giggs.

Coming up to his 34th birthday, he'd have to be a one season wonder and therefore, he'd better be cheap.

I'm not sure anything will come of it though. He made over 40 appearances for his club last season so, it's not as if he's waiting on the bench. He's been United since before he was born. Why leave, especially when he's aiming for Bobby Charlton's record of 606 games for Man U?

A bottle, having travelled the Indian Ocean, washed up on the beach this morning, and in it was a rolled up piece of parchment. On it was written a single sentence:

'Spurs to bid for Ryan Giggs.'

Oh, OK, I looked on the interweb in the hotel and read it...interesting, if unlikely. The 'Davids' approach, I thought, worked quite well at times - bit of experience and all that...
