Still no Bale and no Berbatov sale

We’re just going to have to shit it all summer, aren’t we, or at least until Dimitar the Great puts pen to cockerel headed paper? So, today brings the latest in astronomical bids for our prized asset, with the figure at £27.5m plus the £11m rated Loius Saha. No offence Loius but somehow £39m straight sounds a lot better. Still, neither are exactly palatable and despite Berbatov’s agent, Emil Danchev’s words this morning The Bagel and hopefully Spurs are staying strong. He said:

“In football you do not know what will happen tomorrow.”

Soothing stuff, eh?

So does this mean that the £70k a week chance to play for the league champions in the Champions League has finally swung it for the beautiful Bulgarian? The Bagel says no and so does the Daily Mail, who I firmly believe are the paper with their ear closest to the Tottenham board room right now. Levy & MJ have iterated, reiterated and re-reiterated that Spurs are not a selling club and that Berbatov’s going nowhere. I’m inclined to believe them and I think this first bending from Dimitar’s camp is more of a bargaining tool than anything else.

We’re only set to double Dimitar’s £22k wages, so you can see why team Berbatov might be holding out for a little more. The tricky part is that none of our players earn more than £50k and it would mean the breaking of this unwritten principle but in the end I’m sure the board will see sense and give him what he wants, even if it ends up being £49,999.99 per week, the best parking spot at the Lane, Mido as his boot cleaner and an option on Mrs Danny Murphy whenever he should like.

The deal that I fear a little more is Chelsea’s reported bid this morning for the man they call Chimbondabonda. There’s £10m on the table and everyone’s just staring at it. The room is quiet, eyes are down, Jose waits and MJ’s loosening his collar and his resolve ever so slightly.

That’s a lot of money for a player who isn’t irreplaceable. I mean, Bonders is good, he’s very good but there are other right backs out there. The question is whether we’d find one or not and personally, I don’t think it’s worth the risk. But beyond how we feel, what does the player himself think?

Well, he’s said before how happy he is at the club but if he was so willing to turn his back on Wigan, it’s easy to feel that we are just another rung on his ladder to the top and now that he’s been offered it he’ll step all over us to get what he wants. To be fair, we’d deserve it. We out muscled Wigan. Chelsea can out muscle us. But The Bagel still believes we wont be selling him, or any of the first team regulars this summer. At ease Toby the Yid. Don’t let it spoil your honeymoon.

The other story that’s got everyone, myself included, on tenterhooks (whatever they are) is when, when, when of the Gareth Bale deal. I was expecting the call from MJ yesterday but he kept me waiting like a hot blonde with better fish to fry. The bitch.

I’d be surprised if it didn’t go through today but then there’s no word of any press conferences being announced and you’d think it’d be a big enough deal to warrant one. So, still we wait.

The only other story of the day is the resurfacing of an old one about a young one from the now famous Sporting Lisbon stables, who goes by the handle of Nani ; very silly name but then possibly a little catchier than Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha. This week’s price for the wing forward, which as far as I can tell means he’s good enough to play in any position north of Zokora, is £13.5m; a considerable step down from the £17m a few months back. The only trouble with this one is that it’s backed up by one dubious report and smells worse than that camembert I’ve got wedged in the cracks of the Bakery fridge. But if you fancy a little more viewing, have a look at this one…

Have a good weekend, now.

Yo, Ahab. Where’s my bagel?

The Bagel.

If Berbatov was to be sold then this would show that the board cannot stick to their guns and cannot be trusted…therefore we can assume that Berbatov is staying put :-)

I may be a little behing the times, but I’m on nights this week so I’ve only just had chance to log on to the spurs web site to discover that we have now announced the purchase of Bale, or as Radioactive Puppy so sweetly puts it:

“The love child of Tim Henman & a monkey”

Personally, I don’t care what he looks like & long as he goes some way towards solving our left side issues. Though I wouldn’t mind a look at any video evidence of the meeting!

    COYS!

  3. Radioactive Puppy Says:

Dont think we will keep Berba for years and years, but I feel that as he is on a four year contract the board will not let him go this season. His stock will rise more than can be offset on the chances of him going on a freebe when the contract runs out.

So I reckon he will wait till the end of next season, see where we are then. If we are in the champions league and look like staying up there and going forward he may last even longer.

    I hope.

well we just sighned bale at…….about nine? yesssssssssss!!!

  5. Yid of the Norf Says:

So I wasn’t so far bahind the times afterall!

Do you think Bale the younger will meet the step up to the big time? I hope so

  6. The Bagel Says:

Very nice. I should go out more often. It’s like that coming back to your seat to find your foods arrived only the foods Gareth Bale with lashings of Yiddo sauce. Delicious.

£5mill rising to £10mill is an excellent deal. Gives us a lot more to play with this window than we’d thought. Still around £25mill in the kitty then.

Just picked up these quotes from the Chimbonderer:

‘I’m at Tottenham and am very happy. I’m committed to the club. I have only been here one year and have three more years left on my contract.

‘I’m very happy with my form in my first season at Tottenham, and there is more to come from me.’ - Wire Services.

Made me feel better anyway. On another note, he must have set a new premiership glove wearing record last season - i don’t remember a game where he didn’t wear them.

A bottle, having travelled the Indian Ocean, washed up on the beach this morning, and in it was a rolled up piece of parchment. On it was written a single sentence:

‘Spurs to bid for Ryan Giggs.’

Oh, OK, I looked on the interweb in the hotel and read it…interesting, if unlikely. The ‘Davids’ approach, I thought, worked quite well at times - bit of experience and all that…

  9. The Bagel Says:

Funny, a silmiar bottle ended up in the Thames. I fished it out with two baguettes used like chopsticks and it too talked of Giggs.

Coming up to his 34th birthday, he’d have to be a one season wonder and therefore, he’d better be cheap.

I’m not sure anything will come of it though. He made over 40 appearances for his club last season so, it’s not as if he’s waiting on the bench. He’s been United since before he was born. Why leave, especially when he’s aiming for Bobby Charlton’s record of 606 games for Man U?

    The Bagel.

  10. Wilson Says:

Gigss has still got a good few seasons in him, don’t think he’l quite do a Teddy Sheringham but I can see him playing well into his late 30’s.

I’m usually optimistic when it comes to transfer rumours regarding Spurs but just can’t see this one happening, mainly for the reasons pointed out by The Bagel.

Interesting rumour revolving around Spurs holding a meeting with Sporting Lisbon regarding Nani. However, I feel if Man USA make a move then we can forget it straight away

Since when have Man USA been our transfer rivals time after time anyway?? Does this mean we are finally of the status where we can seriously compete with the Giants of the Prem for players?…nah probably not.

    Yet.

  11. The Bagel Says:

I read an article earlier about an alleged £60m kitty and license to let rip this window. We’ve got big signing no.1 in the bag, four to go and we’ll be gate crashing the Big Four like scousers at a cup final.

    The Bagel.

  12. Wilson Says:

Yea but that was in the Sun wasn’t it? I don’t believe anything they say about Berbatov or anything player related to be honest so it would be mighty contradictorary of me to believe this one.

Talking about possible transfers, have you read Samuel Eto’o’s interview in the Mirror (joke!)? My perception of him used to be ‘arrogant prick’ but this interview has changed that somewhat. He sums up most English fans pretty well by saying, ‘ They are so positive in supporting their own team rather than, as happens in Spain, being against the opposition’…hasn’t played against The Arse then.

  13. Radioactive Puppy Says:

Not seen him play, but, I think Bale is a really good signing. We were only short this season because of out left side. Weve had stop gaps but no proper out and out lefties, we are half way there.

I’m just hoping Martin comes out with a blinder of a midfielder, grabs an unknown out of the bag. In all honesty who had heard of Berba 2 years ago?

  14. TobytheYid Says:

    I hadn’t.

As a non-season ticket holder, probably a minority on this site - I always felt that we had 3 problems this last season:
    1) Cover for the left back. Never looked great when we were full stregnth.. Enter mr. Bale.
    2) Cover for central defence… Gardner ok… but we are all talking about going for top 4…
    3) Despite Jol’s fetish..a truly world class midfielder (tell me I’m wrong, please) We have some ‘good’ midfielders, but really, like Berbatov, we surely need someone who is a cut above to challenge for the top 4, and the consistency that entails…???

I’m taking the long (12 hr) flight back from Mauritius on wednesday morning - sorry for mentioning it once or twice (or 5 times).

The one thing that struck me, in an Island that supports the ‘big four’, is the promise that Spurs now hold… ALL the locals mentioned how ‘Spurs were coming up’… I mean really, surely, after all the ‘false dawns’, we are now in a position to make a differtence, no?

Let’s remember that until Chelski happened, it was the ‘big three’… It is now or never…

People once said that about Everton, but we have greater quality than them, If we are to really make an IMPACT, the time is next season..but, Gareth Bale aside, what (or who) do we really need for a season long campaign that will only (let’s be honest) be a real move forward if we win silverware OR a top 4 place??

(yes I have had a few cocktails been thinking about this, sorry)

  15. Wilson Says:

Looks like we’l be adding a few more languages to that Shirt sponser before next season…..

  16. Wilson Says:

T’is a shame Lennon is out of the Brazil game. Would have been interesting to see him play against his secret country of origin…Let’s just hope this knee problem doesn’t turn into another one of those annoying ‘niggling’ injuries that don’t go away.

  17. LilyWhiteYank Says:

I don’t know what we need Toby. I think you are right about getting a top flight midfielder but they arent really growing on trees. Maybe if Jermaine Jenas decides to show up to play he can be the great midfielder we overpaid for so long ago. Other than that I dont know. We did miss Carrick this year, but that money (and Berba) were fantastic.
