David Healy and No’s from the O’s
With a striker rate for Northern Ireland of better than a goal every two games, the man of the moment is most definitely Leeds United’s David Healy. He scored a couple of crackers last night at Windsor Park and his home country’s press is convinced that come next season the well traveled 27-year-old will be heading for the Premiership once more.
und David Healy…
und the second…
But Healey hasn’t has the best of club careers with only a fringe role at Man U before moving to Port Vale, Preston NE, Norwich and finally Leeds under the frighteningly insane partnership of Wise & Poyet. The squat and steady striker stands at 5′8″ but with a good solid near 11 stone to anchor him to the ball. Here’s his head…

…limbering up for a night with Julian Clary.
I haven’t seen much of the man but he doesn’t strike The Bagel as the sort of player we’re after. For now I’m saying no way Jose but I’ll keep my bready eye upon him.
Lastly today, a little development on the earlier story regarding Brian Saah, the 19-year-old Leyton Orient centre half. O’s manager, Martin Ling, has had this to say:
“I have not had the money on the table, but it might be a good move for a buying club to leave Brian where he is comfortable.”
Oh, is that so Martin? Well, perhaps young Ben should just stay in bed under his nice warm duvet each morning, cradled by his soft, down pillows and hugging mattress? After all Brian should be left where he is comfortable. Wouldn’t want to push him at all, you know, broaden his horizons. Or perhaps, Martin, you should leave that to us and our £2m to decide.
O Bagel where art thou?

I bet Ling’s comment about leaving the boy where he is comfortable will do wonders for the lad’s confidence! After all, there’s nothing like you own manager suggesting the step up to the big time is just a bridge too far for your abilities & potential. That’s one way to keep him at your club, but with his self esteem shattered, you won’t be getting the best out of him
Keep your mouth shut Ling, your future may only be with the O’s but if Saah’s got potential you should be big enough to let him go
Well bugger me with a fish fork! (Only metaforically speaking ofcourse, I don’t want any offers!) didn’t I get on my soap box!

Whatever his opinion, I’ve got a feeling our scouts have a better idea and are probably paid twice as much to know so
Embrace the soap box.

Hello Bagel
From your vast knowledge of all things lillywhite, was the last player that we signed from the O’s John Chiedozie? I can’t recall any since then.
Chi - Chi - Chiedozie

Not that i claim to be a better judge of a player’s ability than the lilywhite’s scouts.. but.. I saw Saah play against Scunthorpe last weekend and frankly he was very disappointing. Slow, lazy and uninspiring. Mind you, so was the rest of the O’s team. And Scunthorpe come to think of it. Spurs, you’re better off out of it.
Mind you, Scunny’s Billy Sharp is a good buy if you want another small target man. Get him before Liverpool snap him up. You could do with a Defoe replacement for when he comes to Old Trafford in the summer, right?

Oi, hands off Sharpey. We don’t need anyone else, in addition to his agent, hawking him around.
As for Saah, yes, I didn’t rate him, based on that performance.

We signed John Chiedozie from Notts County….!

I still think Notts County should be in the Premiership. This is based on the first Panini sticker book I had - they were in the top division then. I think Swansea were in the top division that year too. I want things back the way they were, I’m a dreadful sentementalist.
I used to work in the meadow club bar underneath one of the notts county stands when I lived in nottingham.
I have no more personal notts county recollections to offer. Sorry about that.

thanks oog. My mistake. Did he ever play for the O’s or did I dream it?
I had a few enjoyable visits to Meadow Lane especially when I could walk down from Sneinton when I was up there for a bit. The Fox was a decent pub just by the windmill.

Chiedozie was at Orient before Notts County; one of the O’s most capped players apparantly.
Do you rember those ’sticker’ albums back in the eighties that were just bits of card you had to glue in? Think I had one of those for the first division with Swansea and Ipswich amonsgt others. Ahhh, sticker albums for goalposts.

Hornchurch Yid - I used to live in Sneinton and the Fox was my local! Do you remember the photo of the dodgy middle aged biker woman in just her leather jacket? The double vodkas for £1.05! The lockins every day except Tuesday because thats when the police came round to check there wasn’t a lockin! Ah - happy days.

oog - I don’t recall the photo but it certainly was a great pub. The original Pot Black quiz machine by the door was always a good target to earn a few quid.
Did you ever go in the Bendigo? Went in once but never again. Now that was a weird pub. The statue of the bare knuckle fighter above the entrance really set the standard for that boozer. Living in Sneinton Hollows it was either up to the Fox or down to the Bendigo. An easy choice.
