Nearly There

Two bagels at Everton. What? Two bagels – 0-0! Not bad, it would have been a bonus to get the win, but there didn’t seem to be many chances?

We beat one half of Manchester yesterday at least – should have put away more of those chances.

Almost certainly we won’t be lower than 8th – fantastic really, in case you’ve forgotten that start? Just for those who are still worried, we won’t be relegated unless we go into administration.

Newcastle let us down badly – it would still be good to overtake Fulham, but it’s not easy now. Maybe the Europa League is a bit of a poisoned chalice, but you’ve got to be in it to win it!

You still couldn’t make up this season – a few more home goals would have been to the crowd’s liking but to finish with the fewest conceded at home in the Premiership and probably Spurs history is baffling! Defence seems to be better for once – let’s keep it this way, it’s gone pear-shaped before. Now to add more quality and start the push for better things next season.

Fingers crossed for Saturday. Calm down! Calm down!

Got to be pretty happy with atleast 8th. A year out of Europe might do us good… you never know. But without Europe it also means we will need to trim the squad no doubt. Bentley is a certainty (if anyone wants him) given ‘Arrys remarks. Who else do you reckon? What do we make of Pavlova’s storm down the tunnel?

  2. Hornchurch Yids Says:

I want to keep Pavlova as he is a decent striker. Seems bizarre that he would throw a hissy fit in the last home game with 15 mins to go. I sometimes wonder if these histrionics are choreographed.

Bent / Bently / Hudd - they are all gonnas I reckon.

Who should we buy if we can only buy 3 players as ‘Arry reckons?

  3. Wattson Says:

Yeh there are a few extra players you have to put question marks on as to whether they stay.
Zokora / Gilberto / Chimbonda / Rocha ? Not exactly regular in the first team but they must surely be looking elsewhere.
Huddlestone I hope stays and I think Harry will also want him around. We surely couldnt get rid of all those players but they are dead wood in terms of the squad.

No idea who he could bring in. A goal scoring midfielder would be nice. Will he bring in a left sided midfielder or is that Modric now?

  4. Glory Glory Says:

    3 players… the highest priorities for me, based on who I think will be leaving, are;

    A 1st choice striker
    A 1st choice CM
A Left Winger (been the priority since Ginola left!)

I think Bent & Pav will both be off. Just don’t think ‘Arry rates either of them.
In terms of the midfield, I would not be surprised to see the back of Hudd, Bentley & Zokora.
Jenas, Pally, Moddy, O’Hara plus a new signing is plenty of choice.

The left wing position speaks for itself, unless young Gareth wants to step up into that position. Certainly don’t see him getting ahead of BAE for the LB slot.

  5. Hornchurch Yids Says:

If we do go for a left winger I’m still to be convinced by Downing. Anything over 8 mill is way too much.

At least I feel confident that ‘Arry knows the types of players he can work with and they all tend to be no nonsense types. I wonder if there will be any surprises?

I forgot about Chimbo and Rocha. Get rid soon as. Zok is a decent squad player but maybe he will want away as he slips down the pecking order.

  6. Wattson Says:

Yeh I agree HY. I am not interested in Downing in the slightest. I wonder whether ‘Arrys targets will have changed now that he isnt in a relegation battle. I believe we should be aiming for better than a Downing. Can’t see him helping break into the top 4.

  7. Yid of the Norf Says:

    Bagel apology

Sorry guys for not doing a match report on the Everton game… I spent a rather long time speaking to 3 senior police officers (2 Inspectors & a Chief Superindendant)

In the meantime, we need 3 points at Anfield tomorrow & Everton to beat Fulham… Wouldn’t it be nice if Keano banged a couple in to the onion bag tomorrow!

    COYS!

  8. Dude Says:

Pity about the result but at least newcastle got relegated. Brightened up my day.

  9. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    YOTN

did you get the ole’ “Your knicked me fuckin beauty” ?

I am surprised that we finished where we did. I was so sure back in Janaury that we were in for a real relegation scrap back.

I’m not going to predict what might happen next season but anything above 2 points from the first 8 games will be an improvement on this year. See what I’m doing? Keep a lid on the expectations.

  10. G Says:

All-in-all, and bearing in mind our dreadful start, I think this season wasn’t too bad.

After all, we pipped the hammers. That’ll do me.

  11. Yid of the Norf Says:

    HY

Not quite, it just all of my southern charm on the 3 senior officers of the merseyside Constabulary (is that spelt correctly?)

Shame about the final game, but Keano scored & newcastle are sunk… Bonus! No more trips up to that bleak part of the country

All in all we finish quite well considering the shite start to the season. I’m not allowing myself to get carried away about next season either

Gutted I’m out of the country for the Wembley competition, but I’ll be at the Lane for the Olympiakos game, anyone else planning on going?

  12. The Futures Lilywhite Says:

True we won’t be traveling to Newcastle next year YOTN, however we’ll be going to that small town in Lancashire which I seem to recall was not the best experience last year (apart from the last 2 mins ofcourse) :P

btw i’ll also be going to the Olympiakos game.

    COYS!

  13. TobytheYid Says:

    From today’s grauniad:

it is understood Tottenham have made an inquiry about Barton.

Er…WHAT???? Is there anyone who thinks this could, in any way, be a good idea?!

Jeeesus, I certainly don’t - has ‘Arry lost it?

  14. Hornchurch Yids Says:

Please god, let it be Mischa.

I would seriously have to question any manager or club that wanted that piece of shit in their side. It can’t be true.

If we sign that scum bag I will give up. Seriously.

  15. Dude Says:

Nah its load of tosh. It has to be. No newsnow for me till august, i think..

  16. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    Boys and Girls

In an attempt to keep this Beef Bagel thingy ticking over, here is a footy question for you.

What one player would you have Spurs buy that you feel could really improve our team?

Before anyone says Kaka let’s keep this sensible. So, any names that are mentioned would have to be a realistic target.

  17. TobytheYid Says:

A big, solid central defender. I’m sorry, but every two or three games from Ledley is simply not enough. Hmm…so who?

I also have to say, I’d take Berbatov back. He’s had a shite season at Man Utd, and I am positive he’ll get at least another one there but still…

  18. Yid of the Norf Says:

Hi Toby, do you really want my disinherited son back at the Lane? I know he’s had a shite season at manure but despite an elctrifying first season with Spurs, he did litle more than mope about, sulk & spit his dummy out in the second season. He did all he could to engineer his transfer to manure & did nothing to endear himself to Spurs fans. he could have left a hero from Spurs & we would have given him a great reception eaxh time he returned but not now

  19. TobytheYid Says:

True true YOTN, and it must be hard to talk about your own son in that way…

But still, he had something… and ‘Arry seems intent on ditching Pav and Bent -

Next season, I suppose we are aiming to try for top six? That means two teams from Man City, Villa, Everton, Spurs, and possibly Fulham - it really will be tight. Confidence, consistency, balance and a bit of magic are what’s needed. The first three are down to Redknapp and Levy in terms of squad building - I still think the threat he posed, and the potential he has are something I’d like back.

You are bang right though, in the end he was corrosive, arrogant, destabilising and an all round twat.

IF we can hang on to Luka the Mod and Lennon we have some magic.

I still don’t know where I stand on Bentley - 15M is a lot of money, should he be given another season? Does he even want that? Is he worth it?

I quite liked Bassong of Newcastle - And I’m sure he’s now looking for a move :)

  20. Dude Says:

a left winger maybe? we were linked to young and robben but i dont see that happening. if we intend playing modric out there then a center mid to play along palacios. dont think we need a defender as dawson has done well and corluka can cover there too. so hopefully we dont sign to many players which may give an opportunity to our highly rated youth. might save some money for the new stadium.

  21. Yid of the Norf Says:

Good to see the Little Yiddo bag a couple in last nights World Cup qualifier

  22. Yid of the Norf Says:

Does anyone have any info on next season’s kits?

  23. Hornchurch Yids Says:

The new kits are being unveiled on the 25th I think. It’s on the website.

I can’t believe how many new kits they put out these days. I know this is nothing new but it really does take the piss.

Will mini yid be getting one for Xmas?

  24. Yid of the Norf Says:

    HY

Mini Yid may get one for his birthday next month, failing that Xmas as you said… he hardly ever misses a new kit… providing they’re not awful!

Reserves not competing in the reserve league… What’s all that about?

  25. Hornchurch Yids Says:

Yeah, that surprised me too. I hope it means that players on the fringe of the first team will get a chance next season. Bostock has to get some games.

I do think that it sends out the wrong message though. Those players who don’t make it into the first team will have a lot of sitting about to do wondering when the next match for them will be arranged. I’m sure the Coach and Horses will always be able to put a side out if our 2nd string need a run out. Newcastle did this under Keegan a few years back and it was a real failure. I suppose as long as we keep our other youth teams playing and developing then that’s something.

  26. TobytheYid Says:

    1) Don’t know why we have pulled out of the reserve league, surely it would be a good thing?
    2) I know most stories are bollocks, but this is now the third time I’ve read about us swapping Jenas and Bentley for Young. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT A GOOD DEAL?? I am willing to be convinced, but …

    3) I may possibly have woken in a terrible mood, but the stories of Keane , Bent and Pav going are worrying me a bit. I know we were in the disaster zone last season for a while, But with all the huge moneyu that is floating around this summer, are we really going to be able to compete with Man City and Villa…Oh, and Man Utd are now on the hunt for a striker. I worry about us being able to afford/attract top quality…or as near as we can.

Rant over. I hope at least one sentence makes sense…

  27. Yid of the Norf Says:

New kits on Spurs in the news…. Home shirt is uninspired & the yellow template just looks daft. The yellow third kit is equally iuninspired, but I do like the dark blue away shirt which seems to accomodate the stupid yellow template the best. Mini Yid has had a look & thinkd he’d like the away shirt… Good call

  28. Yid of the Norf Says:

Liverpool at the Lane first game & we’re away for the last game of the season again! That’s the 3rd year on the trot isn’t it?

  29. Hornchurch Yids Says:

Sunderland away was the first game last season so being at home is an improvement for this year.

YOTN, don’t worry about the last game of the season being away. We’ll have the season wrapped up by then.

    YIDS!

  30. Wattson Says:

Hmm I thought it was Boro??

When are these 3 new players gonna turn up. Its been a pretty eventful start to the silly season for other clubs

  31. Hornchurch Yids Says:

Christ, maybe I’ve lost a year?

I’m thinking back to Jol’s sad demise when we played up at Sunderland and Kaboul was playing. We lost 1 nil in the last few minutes.

Wattson, I’m sure you are right, it was Boro and we lost that one too. Now that was the beginning of the end for Ramos.

Arry better get off to a decent start or he’ll be in trouble if the last two seasons are anything to go by.

  32. TobytheYid Says:

To be fair, Hornchurch - If you’re gonna forget a year, last year is the one to forget!

Wattson - I am a little concerned as to who we can get…

Plus £7 mil for Bentley? Surely we could get a little more?

  33. Yid of the Norf Says:

I don’t know whether I’m pleased or not… There seems to be very little news of any players, offers, deals etc Spurs may/not be involved in… Perhaps I’m too used to the rumour mill, but I was expecting a bit more than this by now… Maybe this is not such a bad thing as most of what is written at this time if year is utter arse water

  34. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    YOTN

It is all just utter nonesense at the moment. The papers are just turning out the usual speculative crap. I’d be happy if we didn’t cause too much of a stir with our transfers. It always sets us up for a fall. If we can make a couple of sound signings then that will be nice. We also need to get rid of some of the dead wood. In the past ‘Arry has been very good in the market so lets see what he can come up with.

We will not be finishing in the top 4 no matter who we sign. Let’s put that one to bed straight away.

  35. El Caveman Says:

New kits suck, which means top 4.

  36. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    Captain Cavey

Is that the power of the poxy yellow stripe on the new home shirt?

I reckon it doesn’t matter how crap the new kit is (and it is crap) we will not get into the top 4. Hardly a risky prediction on my part but would love to be proved wrong.

  37. El Caveman Says:

HY, jokes! Those lightning bolts (or laser beams) are mightly intimidating though.

Top 4 is a stretch indeed. I am looking forward to seeing Modric and Palacios back, however. I think they’ll have a better feel for tempo and such. Defence held up well toward the end of the last campaign. Just need to figure out the strike force. Not a top 4 guarantee, but lads will be competitive.

  38. TobytheYid Says:

From the front, the new kit will make the players look a bit like they are wearing graduation gowns.

Top 6 will be competitive, and we should be in there, at least fighting for it.

I wonder how Man City will do…It will be interesting to see if they end up a genuine force, or just a very expensive managerial graveyard…

  39. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    So, 1st July tomorrow.

Who is the first signing that we will make? That’s if we make any.

I reckon that Bassong might be a goer. Newcastle need the funds and it’s a safe, no frills signing. I would love it to be an exciting capture like Robben or Huntelaar to get us all buzzing but I can’t see it happeneing.

  40. Wattson Says:

hey guys, long time and still no movement other than Zokora leaving.

One thing I have noticed is the lack of Gomes in the pre-season training. Havent seen him in any pictures and the latest news on spurs site has the boys hitting shots at the keepers.

“Goalkeepers Carlo Cudicini and David Button took turns to go in the firing line.”

    Where is he?

  41. Hornchurch Yids Says:

I think he is off on duty with his national side. I’m sure i read somewhere that he was enjoying linking up with Kaka and all the others.

Well, at this rate it looks like we won’t be signing anybody. It’s becoming a bit of an obsession checking all the web sites for any info. Wading through the usual bullshit is becoming a chore.

  42. stead_uk Says:

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Vieira wtf is goin on it is a harry kinda signing lauran, sol
