Oh Dear

I’ve been asked to write about the 6 points we were supposed to have picked up against Fulham and West Brom. I could have been at both matches, so that was a lucky escape?

It’s almost like last season, except with a worse start. Just when you think the season has got going, we stall again and we’re not even out of second gear. Hopefully things will pick up again, but I’ll be glad to see the back of December.

It’s the lack of goals that’s going to haunt us this season – no real surprise with the departure of 3 of the best strikers of 4, even if 1 was replaced? I know you’re always right Fergie, but I’m not convinced about your prediction for Campbell and he may be welcome going back unless we can see something at Premiership level.

Who knows what the transfer window will bring, but may be it will be first aid in some form or another.

I think we should have beaten Fulham but they are proving tough for most teams so far. Yes, there was some bad luck at West Brom but we weren’t creating any good luck. Back to basics – more shots etc but we need 2 strikers on the field, I think, and a fit TH. Some of these other expensive imports are doing very little at the moment. January could be a very good month, but we’ve got to make it happen, now. We want to survive with a bit to spare. The Carling Cup again would be a real bonus, but frankly I can’t see any other silverware this season.

Happy New Year to all our readers.

The Platzel.

Happy new year to all Yiddos and a very merry transfer window.

Let’s hope the first couple of months of this year bring similar fortunes to Spurs as 2008.

I see that Wigan are without both 1st choice strikers tonight, so that is a good start. We should win tonight, but another 0-0 is highly possible what with our lack of goalscoring prowess at the moment.

    COYS

    GG

    Same to you.

Looks like Taarabt will get a game tonight. It’s about time we see what the lad is made of. I’m concerned about rumours that Gio might be off. He hasn’t had a real chance since ‘Arry came in with his ankle injury.

Who should / could we buy in January? To keep it sensible you can only name 3 players and they have to be realistic.

    Here’s mine.

Defoe. Great goalscorer and he wants to come back.
Upson. Apart from being former scum he is a solid player and WHU need the cash.
Scott Parker. The defensive midfielder we’ve been missing. He can pass a bit too. Maybe too injury prone?

  3. Wattson Says:

    Happy New Year to all.

I agree, I am slightly concerned about the Gio talks but I think it is mainly just that. Cant see why would sell the kid. Cost us more money to sell him than to hang on to him. Plus I think he is a good talent who needs a game and some time

  4. RosieRoo Says:

What about the rumours that Ramos is after Little Aaron for £8M? Will he stay or will he go?

    Happy New Year?

  5. Hornchurch Yids Says:

    RR

On last seasons form I would have been happy with selling Lennon, but this season he has been back to his dangerous pacey best so we should hang on to him for dear life. I’m sure Ramos would like him but ‘Arry would be mad to sell him.

Anyway, there is every chance that Ramos won’t be in charge at the end of the season, unless he can dramatically turn around their ailing season. Hopefully, Real can temp Msr Wenger at the end of the season and we can say fuck off / goodbye to that rat once and for all.

  6. Yid of the Norf Says:

I would like to see Defoe, Scott Parker & I would’nt mind Glenn Johnson or Roque Santa Cruz

  7. Yid of the Norf Says:

Mind you, Podolski would be nice

  8. Yid of the Norf Says:

Great result tonight, Good that Pav’s getting his eye in & that Modric is getting off the mark, but Luca’s header must be the lowest from pitch level ever executed… Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  9. Wattson Says:

I cant see Lennon being sold. Its obvious that Ramos will be linked with our players but if you see ‘Arrys comments about how short our squad is then you cant see too many players leaving…

What was the story with Ghaly nearly coming on last night??

  10. Block54Diaz Says:

    A little bit about Ghaly.

Most of the people where I was sitting booed when his name was named in the line up. Why? He “disrespected” the shirt, to me this sounds like something a ASBO youth would spout, nonsense.

Personally I don’t have a problem with him, I can remember him being kicked in the face and carrying on playing despite losing a tooth.
Ok he threw down the shirt, but he was angry and he apologised.

Friday night about five minutes to go he was ready to come on but then Harry seemed to change his mind.

This started a bit of a discussion between a few of us. The general consencus was give him a chance, a couple of people were totally against him, respecting the shirt kept coming up.

And for some reason we spent most of our time listening to chants for a Portsmouth player who will probably be playing for Man City next. Funny old game.

  11. Glory Glory Says:

Diaz, never underestimate the stupidity of some football fans (especally at Spurs unfortunately).

To boo one of your own is inexplicable to any normal thinking supporter.

I know what he did was wrong, but I do think it was a bit misconstrued by the fans. He was appalled by his own performance that night and was angry at being substituted. Throwing the shirt was wrong, but my interpretation is that at least he cared and not enough footballers show enough passion these days.

Fair play to him for working his way into contention again I say. Admittedly, he wasn’t great for us first time round, made lots of mistakes and was even more pedestrian than Jenas…but if he cares enough to want to play again then he deserves a second chance.

What concerns me is that ‘Arry was swayed by the crowd… bigger connotations there methinks.

  12. Glory Glory Says:

Did anyone watch the documentary about Gazza’s family on CH4? My word, what a sad case that man is.

I found myself quite choked seeing how he has affected his family, especially the oldest boy.

I really do hope he can get some kind of help, but it does appear he is beyond that now and it’s sadly a case of when he dies, and not if :(

  13. farah Says:

    And he’s back!!

    http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/defoedealagreed060109.html

  14. Hornchurch Yids Says:

What a tragedy for all involved. Really sad to see. GG, i fear you are right that it is all too late for Gazza.

I think he is probably the best player that I have seen at Spurs during my time. Hoddle was God but Gazza on his day had everything. I have a fond memory of Gazza taking the ball past an oponent in front of the East Stand and instead of looking at the ball as he went down the wing he just turned his face towards the crowd and pulled one of his loony faces for at least 2o yards while he dribbled the ball.

A genius of a player but sadly never got the help is so desperatley needed.

So, Defoe is back. Him and Pav up front sounds rather tasty.

  15. wackyjackie Says:

If Pav can hold the ball up front Defoe can score. Welcome back son, Like to think it was the fans chanting at the portsmouth penlty that made the boy homesick! Good win against the Burnley and all will be right with the world. COYS!

  16. B Money Says:

Glad to see the wee fella back alrite - lets hope he can do the business second time around.
What’s next for us in the window then? Is the boy Appiah the answer to our mdfield problems? Probably not (rumours of knee trouble could make him the new Ledders)
What about Downing? He’d give us balance that has been lacking for as long as i can remember - not sure if he’d give us much more. ‘Arry could be the man to get the best out of him.
I wouldn’t mind a right back, and pushing Corluka into the middle, but I don’t know who’s out there. Johnson?

    COYS

  17. Wattson Says:

I think Id prefer a tackling left back. Someone to mentor the two we’ve got. We have Hutton as our other right back but he is out for god knows how long.
Id like to see Appiah come in as long as he can stay fit. But as for Downing, I really think we are barking up the wrong tree. Plus £15m for him is ridiculous money. Can we not get that Diego Capel fella we wanted when Juande was here?

  18. B Money Says:

I think we’ll stick with what we’ve got at left-back until the summer, he fancies BAE, I don’t see it myself. I’m still not convinced Bale is a left-back - definitely a wing-back where he has performed best for Wales - and not good enough for left midfield.

Capel is a no go since Jaunde left i reckon - there’s not much to attract him to London now. I wouldn’t mind Krancjar from Pompey - unspectacular but solid enough.

  19. cosmo Says:

What the fuck am i witnessing here…Arry better kick some arse half time!.

    COYS…

  20. cosmo Says:

    Fuck me Arry heard me!

    YID ARMY

  21. The Futures Bright,The Futures Lilywhite Says:

    HAHA what a revival

  22. Yid of the Norf Says:

Spurs are on their way to Wembley!

    COYS!

  23. Block54Diaz Says:

    Come on Derby!!!

  24. Wattson Says:

Great second half but our defence is still very worrying. Some very lazy/cold players last night. Come on Derby tonight!

£14.5m rejected for Downing. What a boro doing? The bloke has handed a transfer request in and doesnt want to play and you don’t accept £14.5 for him? Thats about £6m more than Id pay for him.

  25. B Money Says:

I thought Bale had anothe stinker at left-back again last night. Corluka is clearly alot more comfortable in the middle but does a job at right back.
It is unbelievable haw sticking an actual left footed player on the left side of midfield made such a difference - if we don’t get Downing that still has to be a priority.
As for Bentley - did we keep the receipt?

  26. Glory Glory Says:

Downing is not the answer, especially at that money. However, might be worth a punt if we can offload David Beck.. I mean Bentley.
He is possibly the WORST player to call himself a winger I have ever seen. He has no pace, can’t beat a man and the way he keeps on trying the fancy flicks and Hollywood passes is so aggravating. The crowd were really getting on his back last night and rightly so. Glad Harry made the call at HT to haul him off and didn’t wait until 60-70mins.

  27. B Money Says:

Aye, he looked absolutely abysmal last night. Lennon’s delivery wasn’t the best either - after it had seemingly improved in the Wigan game.

Downing is definitely not the answer to out problems down the left side, but if we don’t address it during this transfer window then I may not be such a big problem in the Championship.

On a brighter note Big Pav won me £30 on an anytime goalscorer bet last night, I think he’ll come good for us

  28. Glory Glory Says:

Hands up whose going to the 2nd Leg

    *GG puts hands up*

  29. cosmo Says:

Don’t mean to put a fly in the onitment! but i’ve heard our arry say on many occasion that we have got the quality players in the squad. I know theirs the odd one or Bentley in team that is a cropper but surely arry can work his magic on what we have instead of throwing money at the problem ( glad about Defoe though!) Look what happened against the top four so far / Uefa / and of course the future Carling Cup were still the same team.

  30. Hornchurch Yids Says:

I feel more reassured with ‘Arry in charge that he will try to buy the right players. At least he knows the kind of players to get us out of the relegation scrap.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but obviously Commolli didn’t have a scooby doo.

GG, no ticket for the 2nd leg but if anyone has a spare…………

  31. farah Says:

I don’t know what’s the problem with Bentley these days - where was the boy who had such a promising pre-season and start-to-the-season and start-to-Harry’s-reign? Is this a (rather extended) bad patch or is he just bad?

  32. The Futures Bright,The Futures Lilywhite Says:

He’s clearly not a bad player judging on his time at Blackburn, maybe just playing for his boyhood club is holding him back a little.

P.S Well done Derby on last nights shock!

    Coys.

  33. Wattson Says:

Glad to see no more reports on the Downing saga today. Would it not make sense to give our young Dos Santos a chance on the left? I seem to recall him having a preferred left foot on him?

  34. B Money Says:

    Not a bad idea Wattson
He’s by no means the finished article but has the potential to be better than Downing (the goat)
No real news from us at all today, was looking forward to even a tease of something to help my studying go a bit easier

  35. Hornchurch Yids Says:

In the London Evening Standard it is suggested that ‘Arry is interested in Kenwyne Jones and Emile Heskey. I don’t suppose we can be too fussy as we are only 2 points off the bottom. Whoever we can get to help us out of out league mess then get ‘em in.

A new investigation by the FA and the Prem league into the West Ham Tevez affair. Bad news for the Pikeys. (smirks and stifles a hysterical laugh!)

  36. Kiran Says:

Given DB’s personal website lists Utd as his favourite club, I wouldn’t believe any of this ‘Spurs is his favourite team’ chat. Maybe preferred over Arsenal, but not much else.

For further evidence look no further than a comparison of how much effort he puts in, compared to a real Spurs fan like O’Hara (or Tainio for that matter).

  37. B Money Says:

Have a look at what this fella has been sayin

    http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_4766177,00.html

As my mother used to say - he’s on crack

  38. Hornchurch Yids Says:

“A slight preference for the Scum”

Well he can fuck right off then. What would have been more acceptable is if he had said” I’ve heard that a bunch of South London nomads are interested in me but I would never join that shower of shit. There’s only one team in London etc etc.

Even then I’m not sure I rate him.

As for DB, a long spell on the bench is in order to get his act together.

  39. B Money Says:

Aye, he rates himself very highly but

Joe Cole mentioned this morning - Big Phat Scolari says he’s goin nowhere - I wonder what the chances are of ‘Arry working his magic on him?

The boy Appiah has been trainin again too - looks like that one is more or less a cert.
