A Half of Two Games

I think you mean A Game of Two Halves? Well, both actually.

The game against Burnley was exactly both, but there were really three teams on the pitch – Spurs in the first half, Spurs in the second half and Burnley. We got there in the end but why don’t we start at the first half kick-off – that’s when the game starts (not that Bentley would know this?). I also don’t want to see a defender putting his arms up to let his man through to set up a first goal. I don’t like penalties, but you must tackle even if there’s a risk of conceding one with a fair tackle? O’Hara is not without talent but makes up in attitude what others with more talent don’t – know who I’m talking about, any players who might care to read this? So, that’s a job almost half done and should be completed barring a disaster. Overall, although not strong we are defending better than in some seasons.

The cup game against Wigan was also pleasing and showed us how to score goals again. Things are looking up – with Jermain back and more to come (?) we must be better prepared to score goals in the second half of the season. A win at Wigan would be a real bonus to cap a good start to the year. It’s early days, but Harry might be ahead of Megson this month, at the moment!

Cos you know why thing took a turn for the better again? The Bagel was out of the country – again? Just a coincidence, of course, or was it? We can’t seem to do anything wrong when he goes away – can we pass round the hat for more holidays or do we want him to emigrate?

Remember, your votes count!

Let’s see who else we can find in the January sales for the squad – Carrick, Berbatov, Tevez, Anderton, Sheringham?

The Platzel.

Bentley’s confidence is shot to pieces. The same way Gomes was coming out trying to do it all in the box, Bentley is trying to re-create the feeling he had after the goal at the New Library.

Past two games I have been to everybody around me has been at Bentley from the off, actually no before that the game in the pubs as well.
Unless he scores a forty yarder that will carry on and i think he feels it.

A couple of months back I was telling everybody on forums to keep faith in Gomes, no doubt the same people saying get rid of him, are now on Bentley’s case.
With Gomes I have a bit of knowledge about PSV so i felt confident doing that, Bentley i am not so sure of.

In fairness Lennon has been one of our best performers this year and it is a valid question to ask whether 16m on Bentley was money wasted. We can always blame Ramos for that, he didn’t like Lennon much when he first started, but Aaron to his credit has been quality at causing problems for the opposition this year. I know who I would pcik first.

Also as much as i am glad to see JD back at the lane, it seems to be forgotten he was in a possible Sol position where he was not signing a contract.
Hindsight where would Spurs fans be without it?

Muct perfer Hunt to Downing! Added to the fact that Downing didnt look like a player who wanted to leave when he celebrated the goal he set up last nite.

I wanna shake the bad player out off Bentley, Seem him against Wigan at the lane and battled for nothing. You gotta do the simple stuff right first right? Hopfully he will prove me wrong today.

    COYS!

Well atleast it was`nt Bentleys fault. Gutted!

Dont think they deserved the 3 points but we should be raping teams like Wigan surley.

    COYS! No Really COYS!

Just brought myself to look at the league positions this morning..why the fuck did I do that eh!….. to see spurs down there just does’nt look right. I must admit I’m begining to shit myself cos weve got some bastard games ahead of us.

Don’t give a fuck about the Carling / Uefa Cup at the mo!

    Very sad Spurs Fan 0-(

    Jol / Ramos / Redknapp…….

Does it really matter if the players aren’t prepared to die for the shirt?

We are fucked. No, seriously, I mean it. This is new territory for most of our players and they just don’t know what to do.

If 40 points means safety then where are we going to get another 20 points from?

Bagel should be deported if it helps any.

Hold your horses Hornchurch…. Jol got us to 5th place twice… so his squad, his team, his players had some resolve about them. Remember Davids & Carrick in the middle? HAve we replaced them? Have we fuck.

I’ve never seen such a bunch of lazy, clueless, lightweight (and to quote Sir Alan) Carlos Kickaballs - and that includes the English contingent! We are simply a team with no spine, no bottle and it has all been breeding from the board downwards since they got greedy and thought that nearly finishing 4th one year meant we could play with he big boys. Levy may have saved face by getting the largely-respected Redknapp in, but he is only delaying the inevitable - that he is someday going to have to admit defeat, just like Sugar before him.

Yes, the players were a disgrace yesterday and have been in many other games this year, but this has been coming for a long time it’s just that we were all too blind to admit it and realise it. Spurs are a mid-table, cup oriented team who have a relegation battle every 5 years or so. They might worry the top 6 once a decade, but in terms of reaching the dizzy heights of the Champions League, forget it.

I still think we wont go down, and if we stay up, who can honestly still say they enjoy watching Spurs? Who can say they feel pride watching our beloved team? What difference will it make to your enjoyment if we are in the PL or Fizzy Pop next year? It’ll be the same, boring shitty football with players who cost and earn too much. The opposition might change, but I generally go to Spurs to watch Spurs, not the opposition. That is just not much fun anymore.

    GG

All your points are well made and I wasn’t lumping all three managers together to suggest that they are all the same. What I was getting at is that it always comes down to the players.

The players got us to 5th under Jol and now they are flirting with relegation under Ramos / Redknapp. Yes, losing Carrick is something we have never recovered from but we still have enough talent in this team not to be where we are. what is missing is the commitment of most of the players.

I don’t agrre with you about us staying up. We appear to be as unorganised and as uncommitted as anything I’ve seen in recent years. Defoe and Pav are going to have to save our bacon with a hafful of goals.

I started watching Spurs just as we returned from the old Div 2 in the late 70’s. I was too young to appreciate it at the time but reading about that period from older supporters it is something of a consensus that it bizarrely was a positive turning point for the club. We got back to playing with style and attacking flair. The fans got their Tottenham back. For christ sake, we had Terry Neil as manager in the mid 70’s. No wonder we were on a downward slide. I’m not saying that I would ever want us to go down but it might just be that we can have a proper clear out in the summer and start again because I think that is what is needed. Hopefully we will still be in the Prem but I doubt it.

GG & Hornchurch, both talking a lot of sense, something which seems to be lacking in some areas of the Spurs following.

Look at the facts and the teams around us and we should stay up and we should stay up. I won’t say will as that smacks of the same arrogance our players have shown.
We have a lot of home games against the teams around us, if the Lane gets behind the tam and becomes the 12th man again we will not lose them.

When Harry came in and we started winning I honestly thought we were going to push on and start challenging for Europe. But some players just have not shown up. Bale, Bentley, Jenas.
I think these will be the big name players who Harry will look to put on the subs bench, the problem is that none of them look capable of coming on and changing a game.
Bentley in particular I feel sorry for, Jenas has had plenty of chances but continues to disappoint me with non-display.

Going down would only be a bad thing, I don’t want us to become a Leeds or Forest.
