Where’s the Beef or a Bread Basket Case?

Where do we start? If you look at the Premiership Table today – most of us can’t bear to – and look at the Bagel, it looks like the Club has died? Well, it hasn’t and we may be down, but we’re not out – of the Premier League yet!

The Bakery has been closed recently, but bear with us we’re going to get the ovens fired up again! Terrible – no beef and no bread (bagels, in particular), and no wins! What are we going to eat – humble pie, I guess?

Do you want to talk about the Bakery or football (what football, has the season started?). We’ve been here before, well something like it at least, but I can’t remember it being this late in the year with no league win? We’re told it’s the worst start since 1912 – before my time – but just to cheer you up, I can tell you we didn’t go down that year or 1913. No, that had to wait until 1914 and then we had to wait for WW1 to end before we could get back out of the second division! WW3 isn’t on the way, is it?

I was encouraged by the headline that Ramos (is it Vamos, but I hope not!) said ‘no one is too good to go down’ – too bloody right, but I don’t think we’re too good?

We’ll have to stick at it – I thought yesterday would be the day, as we thought the game against Hull would be the day? Maybe it will be against Arsenal, although folks I don’t hate them (Wenger was a nobody really when he was appointed), but we now think it will be against Bolton?

I’m willing to ask Jimmy Greaves, whose debut I saw and is the finest striker the country has ever had, to turn out – he can’t do worse than Bent Double and friends, can he? But (you can’t start a sentence with but, but we will be handing out sentences soon!) the midfielders have got to step up to the plate – they’ve either got to make the goals or score them – Lampard does it when Chelsea can’t rely on any strikers and Gerrard did it for Liverpool when they didn’t have any strikers. I’m not a critic of our new goalie, but we can’t even rely on Robinson any more to chip in the odd consolation. I don’t care who scores, just do it! Yes, you have to keep clean sheets, but we haven’t been letting in hatfuls?

I think I’ll leave it there for today – I could go on, so don’t get me started! Let’s just rally round and support this stupid club and see if we can start to climb out of this mess, and as soon as the ovens are ready we’ll get mixing and start the bread line!

Come on you Spurs!

The Platzel (the Bagel is on a sabbatical).

3. DS Says:

I saw a comment ( i think on bbc) that said something along the lines of, “I am former employee of Lehman Brothers, and a Spurs fan. I assure you, nothing is too big to go down.”

4. John Swaine Says:

Did anyone else notice how our play picked up when we had to play 4 in the middle instead of 5.

WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER PLAYING 4-4-2

Even 4-4-1 was an improvement! It’s just like England were in 2006! Add an extra player into the midfield and nobody knows how to move the ball.

5. RosieRoo Says:

Hurrah! A new blog and new boost - just what we needed. Let’s pick ourselves up of the floor (of the Prem table) and get back to what we do best.

COYS!

i love an onion platzel

8. Wilson Says:

I am in no doubt that the return of the Bagel will coincide with an upturn in Spurs’ fortunes.

9. Glory Glory Says:

YES sputnik…spot on. Onion Platzels all the way - I can recommend Shaloms in Gants Hill for the best ones!

10. Block54Diaz Says:

Looking forward to a victorious match report come Monday.

11. Glory Glory Says:

Don’t hold your breath (on the victorious bit) Diaz ;)

I’ve just booked my ticket for the Liverpool Carling cup game - I must be an utter mug, although my self-justification is that it could be the last home game versus Liverpool for some time!

Does anyone know when the club’s AGM is? I reckon Levy is going to have to come up with something good…should be interesting.

12. TobytheYid Says:

AGM delayed to next week.

Guess he’s hoping we won’t be bottom (fat chance) of the league whilst he announces record profits…

I AM glad we appear to be sticking with Ramos, as opposed to yet more bloody changes. I do, however, wish to stop seeing all those fucking ‘our spirit is still good, we know we must do better’ gobshite interviews from the players.

Get on the training pitch, and do your talking against Bolton please.

I genuinely don’t care about the UEFA/ Carling cups - it’s all about that huge league ladder for me.

However, good on you, Glory Glory! - the club needs more supporters like you at the moment, rather than the whingey, pessimistic twats, like me…

13. TobytheYid Says:

Oooh, I didn’t know this. Form Team Talk:

“Spurs have been reported to be on the brink of announcing a new 60,000-capacity stadium to be built alongside their current home at White Hart Lane.”

Still, I think there are more immediate concerns at the moment

14. Glory Glory Says:

However, good on you, Glory Glory! - the club needs more supporters like you at the moment, rather than the whingey, pessimistic twats, like me…

Oh believe me Toby, I am a whinging pessimistic twat also.

Just a fucking mug into the bargain!

15. Glory Glory Says:

doh… how do you bold text on here ffs?

16. oog Says:

Prediction for tonight:

We won’t lose. We’ll waste a good performance in the cups, a win or maybe a draw against a udinese team doing well.

And then fail to beat Bolton.

I’m not a Ramos out man (not many people seem to be) but I will be annoyed if he plays King tonight!

17. Glory Glory Says:

Agree oog, I think we’ll draw tonight and fail to beat Bolton. Just don’t see where a league win will come from at the moment. :(

18. Wattson Says:

I have faith in us beating Bolton. Shame we have to follow it with the scum etc.
UEFA cant be easy choosing for Ramos. Its obviously a cup he knows well and wants to win. Plus he also has Corluka cup-tied which doesnt help his defensive selections. But with Bale and Dawson out for a few weeks in the league he has to save King for the weekend surely.

19. Block54Diaz Says:

Hutton-Corluka-Woody-Benny. Don’t see the problem with them for Sunday if they are all available. Especially seeing we have no Bale jinx! 3points in the bag.

20. sputnik Says:

it’s a tricky balance - but placing all the emphasis on whether Ramos plays King tonight is misguided - undoubtedly though, this is where the press will focus in, should results not go our way. We shouldn’t forget that Ramos is most experienced in Cup competitions and has undoubted tactical nous. this isn’t the problem right now unfortunately - what we need is grafters, battlers and hard-men prepared for a scrap. we also need major management motivation to get every fit player up for the next game - for this reason, I’d hope the Arse game is motivation enough.
On a positive note - this is great news about the probable new stadium just to the north of the lane - on the wingate estate - a proper 55-60K stadium and we wont have to ground-share or up sticks - minimum disruption. Also, we’ll end up right next door to our spiritual home when it’s all done and can watch our beloved WHL get converted into ‘orrible flats no-one wants to buy!
every cloud …

21. The Futures Bright,The Futures Lilywhite Says:

Will be very sad if we leave the Lane, but atleast we’ll be staying in the local area.

COYS!

22. oog Says:

Sputnik, I agree its not where we should place “all” the emphasis. And that we need grafters etc.

But Ramos has a decision to take and I think the right one is to prioritise the league over the UEFA cup. If you accept that, surely you then rest your injury prone inspiration of a captain for the game that matters less? So if Ramos doesn’t rest Kind and he then doesn’t play against Bolton, it worries me that he hasn’t fully accepted yet that we are in a genuine relegation battle.

As for grafters… we don’t have them! We’ve got zokora and o’ hara.

When we were coming 5th or 11th, zokora wasn’t good enough. I’ve still got a bit of hope that zokora IS good enough in defensive midfield for us to come 17th though!

23. oog Says:

Ledley Kind

24. Wilson Says:

Don’t know much about Udinese but they have been winning games so I think the gulf in confidence will see them past us tonight.

25. Block54Diaz Says:

Wilson think positive. We are suited to the European game now - Modric will shine given some time and space and not being kicked every two minutes.

2-1 to the Spurs

Come on You Lilywhites!!!

26. The Futures Bright,The Futures Lilywhite Says:

Bentley not in the squad,Modric on the bench…mmmmmmm

27. oog Says:

a win and we would have still been in the shit but with some confidence.

Instead we are just in the shit with no confidence - no change there then.

Sod the result - I’ll be happy if we can keep 11 men on the park on Sunday!

28. bigbadbob Says:

just finished watching the game on tv
felt sorry for the fans that made the journey!
what a shower we must go 4-4-2

very very depressed

29. Pandy Says:

Bagel back, 3-0 to Spurs. :D

30. oog Says:

Is anyone doing a match report for Bolton?

I will give it a go if no-one else is planning to.

I vote for oogal on the match report, until BB comes off suicide watch. To his health, and to that of the Tottenham an all! COYS.

34. RosieRoo Says:

With you, Ali.

Looking forward to your report, oog. Let’s hope it’s a positive one.

35. Adie Says:

Go for it oog!

36. Glory Glory Says:

I was going to attempt one too, although I’m away on business straight after the game and wont be able to post it until Tuesday. Might just leave it to you oog and instead I will do one for the next home game I attend (think it will be Liverpool in the cup)

Just a quick note about Sunday too… I am very worried about this supposed planed protest BEFORE the game. Like that is really going to help! Call for the board’s heads after the game by all means, but get behind the lads when they need it most

37. sputnik Says:

got my vote Oog!

last night.. - stupid mistake from Heulerrorprone undid a lot of good work and drained our confidence which then seemed to result in several yellows and the red card. I thought we showed good spells of play (as we have done in other games - partic vs Hull). Modric was strong and full of endeavour and Jenas did play with purpose. Very disappointed with Lennon - just weak and no delivery. Give Jonny 2 Saints more of a go - his cross for Bent’s header was excellent. This kinda summed it up for me - this chance was the main one we really created - and then they go down the other end and slot home a simple second to flatter the scoreline.
When you see Zokora shooting from 40 yards I reckon the problem is clear - we lack creative strikers. I know it’s obvious but there is no guile or craft in attack. We threaten down the flanks but it’s too predicable for teams to counter - hence why Berba and Keane are so sorely missed.
I’m trying to remain positive - a silly keeper blunder + a late doors final blow to make it 2-0 but other than that, they didn’t exactly have us against the ropes for the whole game - in fact it was pretty level and not too bad for an away performance.
The problem is lack of craft and guile in the final third plus very poor crosses and dead balls serving our limited strikers.
we just didn’t look much like scoring and had few chances - because we lack the creativity to be unpredictable and unlock defences. Of course this will be the same problem against Bolton. We have to go 4-4-2 as Bent on his own (or Roman) is just too isolated. Stop losing first - then we can move onto winning..
I agree Oog, like all Spurs fans, we prioritise the League (and survival)and if King isn’t there against Bolton there is something badly wrong. However, for me it’s the attacking deficiencies that need sorting right now.

38. Hornchurch Yids Says:

GG

I think the “protest” has been shelved. It is poiontless as you say.

What we need is for everyone to get behind the boys. Things will change. The lads need all the help we can give em. We need to let them know that we still believe. Starting with Sunday. The fight back starts here.

COYS!!!!!!!!!

39. Yid of the Norf Says:

Oog

I look forward to your match report, filled with your balanced views & constructive criticisms

Good new that hte protest has been shelved, we should be looking at getting 100% behind the team. Now is the time & it will require everyone’s full effort to get us out of the mess in which we find ourselves

I was at Stoke with Mini-Yid & we both shouted ourselves hoarse in our efforts to get the team uo off the floor, sadly to no avail. Bolton next, come on lads, All for one & one for all

COYS!

40. The Futures Bright,The Futures Lilywhite Says:

The one thing that keeps me going during these dark times is, things CAN only get better, we’ll hit form at some point, however we need to do it soon or we’ll be dead & burried by Christmass.

2-1 Sunday.

42. Dennis Gooner Says:

To the tune of American Pie

A long, long time ago,
I can still remember,
How the Carling Cup win made them smile,
And they knew this could be their chance,
To finally make that big advance,
And maybe, break the top 4 for a while.

But transfer windows made them shiver,
As Robbie Keane went off to Liver…..
Pool, and Berbs to Man U,
You can’t believe it can you?
Tears of laughter we all cried,
As on Bent they have to rely,
And Frasier Campbell really tried,
The Day That Tottenham Died !

So my my kiss UEFA goodbye,
When Comoli sold the Goalie,
Well it made Levy cry,
When you play for Spurs you kiss Capello goodbye,
Soon your gonna be a Magpie,
I bet you wish you were a Magpie.

Did your players eat the poisoned food,
To let Arsenal in and spoil your mood,
If the fansite tells you so,
Do you believe in Chas n Dave,
Can their music save you from an early grave,
And can Dawson teach me how to run real slow,
Well, I knew you were set for a let down,
When the Spaniard signed the Blackburn clown,
You sacked poor Martin Jol,
And now everyone just laughs out loud,
I have long been laughing at your lack of luck,
Your delusion means I couldn’t give a f***,
That to the table bottom you are stuck,
The day the Tottenham died,
I started singing……..

So my my kiss UEFA goodbye,
When Comoli sold the goalie,
Well it made Levy cry,
When you play for Spurs you kiss Capello goodbye,
Soon your gonna be a Magpie,
I bet you wish you were a Magpie.

43. Glory Glory Says:

sputnik - Judging by Ramos’ own words, you wont see King playing on Sunday as he can ‘only play 1 game every 10 days or so’.

I agree with you that it’s wrong - he played last night and we lost so you could say we ‘wasted’ his performance. Now we have to rely on Woody and Corluka - who’ve not exactly formed a formidable partnership - against Bolton. In my opinion King shouldn’t play at all if he is not capable of playing as frequently as we require. Some kind of partnership needs forming, but due to players being cup-tied in Europe it makes that very difficult to encourage.

On Sunday, I think the thing we have going for us is that Bolton generally play not to get beat away from home and would be happy not to lose (same as us really!). that said, they are playing the whipping boys and may just fancy their chances against our fragile, confidence-drained mob.

I’m not going to make another prediction, but one thing I will say is that we CAN win the game, we can actually win any game we play (it’s 11 v 11 after all) but we do need one major thing to happen and that is a reversal of fortune. A bit of luck (or a lot of it) is needed and of late it just seems that the rub of the green has gone against us several times per game. Of course, much of it is self-inflicted, but isn’t it about time the footballing gods paid us back for the Pedro Mendes incident at Old Trafford? Or Lasagnegate?

44. TobytheYid Says:

I still can’t believe Ramos decided to play King in the UEFA cup.

That may well turn out to be the decision that sinks his career, and our club.
With all the Red cards and injuries - what 11 will start?
We should play Tainio and Steeed, that would give us some muscle.

Oh.

45. Pandy Says:

COYS!!!

46. Glory Glory Says:

Still cannot get my head around the sale of Steeeeeeeeed, Toby :(

47. oog Says:

Goodbye Juande. Time for us to lurch on to the next stage of the latest crisis!

Goodbye Damien. Not your fault someone gave you a job you had no qualifications for!

Well done Mr Levy - the evening before the game. ideal timing as always.

Poyet?

48. oog Says:

Oh. Goodbye Gus!

49. NZ Yiddo Says:

Whats everyones thoughts on Redknapp?

50. Yid of the Norf Says:

Harry Redknapp has agreed to become Spurs manager… A move in the right direction perhaps

Oog, you’re right mate, Levy’s timing is a excellent as ever… Not!

Anyway, the only way is looking more upward in the long run. Time to roll your sleeves up Harry, kick some arses & get some matches won, if it starts tomorrow all well & good, but I’m not holding my breath… Still, it would be great, wouldn’t it

COYS!

51. Adam Says:

I disagree about Levy’s timing. If he had to do it, he had to do it quickly. No sense in dragging it out like the way Jol’s sacking was handled. If Spurs had contacted Redknapp, then it would be all over the press within a day or less. We have a lot of games this week. I’d rather they sack Ramos right before our match v Bolton instead of right before our NEXT match (Arsenal on Wednesday). If Levy had waited to sack Ramos after the Bolton match, then we’d all be complaining that he did it right before the Arsenal match.

I’m not so sure I’m glad he’s gone, but I guess something had to be done. Although I liked the guy just fine, I never really became ‘attached’ to him like I did (we all did) with Jol.

52. Block54Diaz Says:

Defoe, Diarra and Sol Campbell!!! in January???

Only joking about Campbell, although Harry was very vocal about our travelling support recently, I wonder how he will feel if takes the job. Time will tell, if Harry does come in rest assured January will be very interesting.

To all going today, I’m sure we’ll win, enjoy the feeling - I’m looking forward to that victorious match report.
