Four - US owner worth having

Can’t say I’m too familiar with the works of Steve Nash but he sure knows a lot about us. The Phoenix Suns basketball player, seen here…

…making a 5XL shirt look like a child’s crop top, is a massive Yiddo, mostly owing to his parent’s North London upbringings, and would could like a piece of the Lane some day when he retires. I’d recommend the East Stand, home of the Bagel Wagon. He said:

“I’m completely behind the group that’s there now and I love what’s going on at Spurs at the moment. But I would definitely love to be part of Spurs once my career is over.”

Nash spends most of his life traveling about the states on some kind of laborious luxury tour, the kind all sportsmen complain about, but whenever he can he tunes into some form of Yid Vision to catch what he can of the game. He was gutted to miss the semi final and said he was in tears when he heard the result and it’s these kind of words from him that do the same to me:

“I’ve been a passionate supporter all my life. I don’t care about making money. I just want to see Spurs succeed and, if I can help, that’s great.”

If going foreign is the way it has to be done, that’s the way I’d like to do it. How much does basketball player make then?

But back to the matter in hand. There are four days left until we go to Wembley. The latest angles on Wembley Watch are the managers’ gambles on their mid-week games. Avram “The Jowls” Grant has already taken his and it’s paid of near enough. The dark man of football left Lumplard, Terry and Anelka out of his team that faced Olympiakos in Athens last night and was rewarded with a goalless draw - no such a bad result away in the Champions League. So, it’s Juande’s turn tomorrow night. Yes, that’s right, we’ve got a game between now and Sunday.

With a one goal lead it’s not like we can just chuck on the likes of Andy Barcham and hope for the best but it’d be nice to be able to rest the normal front two and JJ, if only to sit them on the bench. The wide players tend not to knacker themselves out too badly and doubtless King Ledley is not even on the agenda to face Slavia Prague for the fourth time in two years.

On the keeper front, word has it that Robbo’s back in the frame for Thursday and Sunday after Cerny’s second error and a video analysis of his recent performances, although I believe this one when I see it for myself tomorrow night at what I fear is going to be a very cold 90 minutes indeed. Balaclava at the ready.

But then perhaps this was part of Juande’s plan: drop Robbo, get a result at the New Library, beat them 5-1 on the return, get to the final, have your reserve keeper ‘make a mistake’ the week before and bring Robbo back full of fight for a match-winning Wembley performance with two games to spare? I wouldn’t put it past the wily old dog.

The thought of a UEFA hat-trick must be very tempting but apparently it’s the Carling Cup that our gaffer’s excited about and you know why - because just like us, he’s got that Wembley feeling too. He said:

“For me it is a personal dream to play at Wembley; the biggest I’ve had as a coach. I couldn’t have imagined this. But that’s not what’s important. What gives me the most satisfaction is seeing how happy and excited the team, the club and the fans are. They are the ones who got us here.”

I suppose we are. Well done us, and the players of course And then comes the pressure remover…

“The footballers should go out there and enjoy playing a final at such a legendary place as Wembley. My role is simply to offer all my support and concentration so that the players and fans can enjoy the game.”

This isn’t by any means a ‘we don’t expect to win’ which would undermine the belief of the fans and the players but at the same time it alleviates the choking need to be victorious. Play to enjoy and we’ll play to win. What’s more, it also reeks of humility. What a guy.

In the only bit of transfer news of the day, a rumour’s resurfaced about bringing Eidur Gudjohnsen back to the Premiership to the tune of £7m, only this time in the right London shirt. The 29-year-old’s only made 33 appearances in the last two seasons for Barca, and remember that includes the odd five minutes at the end of a game, which I imagine many of those will have been.

It’s hard to tell if he’s just too Chelsea to play for us - from his point of view that is. I’d have him. Powerful, strong, great shot and no great expectations; perfect for a back up striker. Plus he was never that much of a cunt, which is both rare and refreshing for an ex-West London Blue.

Of course this story may just be what’s kicked up in the dust after a few stories about Martin O’Neill coming in for Sergei Bent but then that itself is probably just transfer chaff until the summertime comes. Who knows, Benty Dazzler may start banging them in between now and then. Can’t see it though.

Needs volume, particularly for the comment at the end. There’s one for Sunday…

Steve Nash makes alot of money. US basketball players are one of the highest paid sportsmen in the world. Take a look at Michael Jordan, Lebron James and the likes, they earn huge commissions on publicity which is on top of their huge pay scale.
