A Woody in our Sweats

Jesus, it is slow right now. There’s been bugger all to write about in the last 48 hours and I can genuinely say I’ve never, in all my two or so years, ever sat down to write as I did at this time yesterday and think, “You know what, I’ve got nothing to say.” I suppose that in itself is something to say but I thought I’d save that particular gem until I had a word or two to go with it.

I mean, look at us. We were reduced to talking about the haircuts of our players. That’s no slur against the Beef Bagel Faithful. As a matter of fact, I am very pleased at what an inventive and entertaining bunch we are. Incidentally, I like Woodgate’s hair do. It does bring a touch of the Continent with him and it may well help by whipping into the eyes of opposition strikers. Defoe’s on the other hand is silly and only slightly less so than The Tart’s explanation.

The thing is that things haven’t really changed much since yesterday morning. We’ve still got Woodgate. Here he is look…

woodgate.jpg

…looking like he’s been squeezed into a Christmas present he’s not that keen on, and here he is in training look…

sweats.jpg

…a Woody in our sweats. I’ve been waiting all day to crack that. Going to have to use it for the title.

So yeah, we’ve still got Woody; we still haven’t quite signed Hutton; we still haven’t heard any more about Gilberto and I’m still wearing the same clothes I was this time yesterday. I haven’t washed either. It was bearable when I started work but it’s 5.11am now and I’m dripping in grease. I make paper go translucent. My skin is actually shiny. I’m going to blind motorists on the way home as their headlights come bouncing back at them with double their original power.

What we do have in lieu of genuine news are the odd sporting tit-bit such as the story suggesting that Inter have got their eyes on Little Aaron in return for a Adriano and a whole bunch of cash. Anyone have anything to say to that other than “Fuck off”? No, didn’t think do.

Juve have said that we’ve taken too long over luring Tiago to the Lane, which initially wound The Bagel up. To begin with, when I read the headlines, it seemed that the Grand Old Lady’s Grand Old Sporting Director, Alessio Secco, was being rather petulant on the matter and had decided to smash all his toys before we took them away. But thinking about it, we’d already agreed a fee with the Turin club and when I you read the quotes, they come off pretty harmless. He said:

“We have received a number of requests for him and Tottenham followed him over the last few days, but, they took their time, and now there is not much time left to conclude the deal, so Tiago is no longer on the market.”

“Now he has got the chance to show his capabilities here with us.”

Fair enough considering at the time they’d not splashed the cash on Sissoko and decided not to wait for us to give it to them. It’s only petty if they reject subsequent approaches. After all, why shouldn’t we take our time? There’s no reason for us to do business at anyone else’s speed, particularly when neither the club nor the player seem that happy with their current relationship. Somehow, I don’t feel this one’s over and either we’ll be bringing the Portugueser to WHL or I’m going to end up slagging off a club I’ve got quite a soft spot for, ever since the days of their Vialli, Ravenelli, Baggio front line. Incredible football.

By the way, the latest I’m hearing on the Hutton Enquiry is that the the offer has been accepted and personal terms have been agreed, so quite what they’re waiting for now is a mystery - probably for The Bagel to get his arse to bed and wake up in a “Hutton Wonderland”. So, off I’ll go although I don’t know how well I’ll sleep. Tickets for Wembley go on sale at 9.30am and we’ve got Oog on the case with his finger to the keyboard ready to sort our crew’s batch tickets. After all the e-mails bouncing back and forth, we’ve decided on where we want to sit in the world’s most expensive stadium and I’ve a feeling it’ll be a semi-sleepless night/morning/sleeptime thing until I get the message that the eagle has landed. God speed to you Oog, God speed.

Never rub another man’s bagel.

The Bagel.

Not thrilled with Sissoko, but agree that the Tiago fiasco is not over yet. And after the Moggi era, I think we have yet to get used to Alessio Secco’s way of doing business.

About hair, I’ve always found the Aaron Lennon look a little disturbing - like a kid playing with his dad’s razor and then, “Oops, got my eyebrow… and oops, got the side of my head”… hahaha… I love that little fellah.

  2. oog Says:

    THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

RIGHT BEHIND THE GOAL IN THE LOWER TIER AS WELL!

  3. oog Says:

does anyone know of any pubs in south london (clapham) that would show dodgy satellite games?

  4. King Ledley Says:

well done oog… money to be transferred shortly…

there is a pub in clapham i’ve used in the past, can’t remember the name, its just along the road from clapham south station…

  5. 1992Yido Says:

Hutton. RB Woodgate. CB King. CB Bale. LB

Wow! Spurs actually have a strong deffence!

    COYS

  6. 1992Yido Says:

    When all are fit ofcourse!

  7. oog Says:

Thankyou King Ledley, whoever you are!

Spurs have a Scottish player. I like it when this happens. I don’t count Sullivan, but I liked Calderwood and Durie. Even though neither of them were that good for us. I was sad when Garry Brady didn’t make it…

My celtic supporting friend emailed to say “he’s a good player”. I take that as evidence that he’s a very very good player. Once he gets the hunnery out of his system I’ll start liking him.

  8. oog Says:

Looks like Tottenham have accepted a bid from Villa for Kevin Prince Boateng! (according to sky). Sounds like Ramos is getting his way with Comolli if its true.

Which I kind of hope it isn’t, because I don’t think he’s had much of a chance to really show what kind of player he is yet. But in Ramos we trust.

  9. King Ledley Says:

king ledley is a yiddo through and through

  10. Adie Says:

Oog, no mention of Archibald?? Shocking.

The Alex used to show dodgy games but not so sure anymore.

  11. oog Says:

    or Ally Dick

  12. Greedo Says:

    Ooh.. Hutton. 9Mil. Now confirmed.

    Nice.

  13. The Bagel Says:

Lennon’s hair is the secret of his speed - go faster stripes.

So, Prince-Kev is up for grabs? Now, we have been using him. Does this mean we’ve got somebody else lined up?

    The Bagel.

  14. DiamondLights Says:

anybody know of pubs showing the game tonight???

    Yucatan maybe?

    Cheers

  15. oog Says:

For some reason, I’m getting really irritated by this transfer window.

Before we signed Woodgate, I was irritated that we hadn’t signed him yet.

As soon as we signed him, I was irritated about Hutton not having signed.

Now I’m irritated about Gilberto. And if we sign him I’ll be irritated about someone else.

    Irritated. By a window.

    over and out

  16. Tottenham Ted Says:

I am irritated we have not signed a central midfielder yet.

Hurry up Tottenham. Time is money.

  17. TobytheYid Says:

Oog, I found myself feeling a bit like that.

Then I spoke to my Newcastle supporting friend, and suddenly I felt grateful. Very, very grateful.

  18. 1992Yido Says:

Tottenham have told talkSPORT that the reports about Prince-Kev on his way out the door to Villa are completely untrue.

  19. oog Says:

Whatever happens now (assuming no Berba stunner!) its been a successful transfer window. My irritation says more about me than it does about Tottenham, who have brought in two players who fit my own preferred transfer policy - that we should only sign players who are going to be better than our current strongest XI.

Ok I can’t really compare Chimbonda and Hutton, but Chimbonda annoys me (when he opens his mouth or when he dribbles out of defence) so a new right back is ok by me.

Meanwhile… we actually have a game tonight! COYS

  20. The Bagel Says:

Routledge has gone. £1.25m to Villa. Good luck to him and less to them.

    The Bagel.

  21. WishThereWasMoreThanOneKeano Says:

Anyone know how to acquire tickets to the final at Wembley (websites people outside UK can access). My cousin and I are looking to scrounge up some cash and head over from the states. And is there any way we can pay for these tickets in Budweiser as the dollar is worth shit compared to the mighty pound?

Thanks and 3-1 spurs today with Keano bagging a brace.

  22. Keving Says:

I went to the same School as Ally Dick…..

  23. 1992Yido Says:

Woody was a rock at the back last night, very good performance:not a bad result aswell…btw who was booing Chimbonda, and why?

    COYS!

  24. Hornchurch Yids Says:

It was the Everton fans booing. Chimbonda was in a tackle with, i think Anichebe and the scousers were annoyed as they thought that Bonders made a meal of it and dived.

Not that they see that kind of thing with Andy Johnson up front.

I agree with you 1992. Woodgate was excellent.

  25. TobytheYid Says:

SO the Gilberto move is on/off/on/off/on/off and now possibly on again.

    Poor Defoe:
    http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2250064,00.html

    And Heskey??!?!?!?!?!?!
I hope this doesn’t push the little Yiddo to Villa/Pompey

  26. TobytheYid Says:

    Oh GUTTED

Spurs and Portsmouth have agreed a fee for Defoe £8.5m

Up to him to agree personal terms etc. Hate it when I’m right. Which isn’t often.

  27. Smart Says:

    Bye bye Defoe.

  28. oog Says:

goodbye little Yiddo, if it is goodbye. You said you loved us. But you never signed our contract. So you didn’t love us that much. And Keane is better.

Leaves us a bit short up front though. Like little yiddo himself.

  29. 1992Yido Says:

I will miss Defoe, but he just doesn’t get enough football at Spurs, so I can’t realy blame him if he goes.

  30. Ali the Yid Says:

It looks like Old Gilberto will not be coming to Spurs from Berlin after failing a medical. I agree Woodgate played very well, but did Chris Gunther look a bit shakey last night? I know he’s young, but can he cut it?

    COYS

  31. Adie Says:

You always felt he could score when he came on and that is a rare quality. He needs to be replaced by someone as good or better.

  32. Dude Says:

Think bent will come good. Once given a run. Defoe had to go because he didnt want to sign but we cant blame him. Will miss him thou.

  33. Dude Says:

    And his hair do

  34. Dude Says:

Dont think bent is really injured.

  35. WHS Says:

That might come back and haunt, forget the bs, you’re rivals include pompy, you lost a good player for a handfull of beans, but you dont get the beans, the beancounters do, all you get is a player with attitude who wants to score against you, and possibly will.

Selling dafoe could be a mistake. For what it’s worth, I rate him.

  36. 1992Yido Says:

Shame you cant spell his name! :)

  37. oog Says:

Yes. You’d play him on the wing.

why don’t we get the beans? I’m not disagreeing, I’m just wondering what you mean. Is there some detail to this transfer that differs from any other transfer that means we don’t get the money?

I’m still not convinced he’s going, but then I haven’t checked the web for an hour so maybe he already has!

  38. Pandy Says:

Defoe was my favourite player as well…

  39. Royce Says:

So that leaves just Bent off the bench up front?? He hasn’t done anything significant since when, the 6-1 UEFA Cup match?

But I guess I won’t complain about more time for Dimi & Keano.

Really looking forward to seeing what Hutton can do, and I’m REALLY REALLY looking forward to Hutton & Bale attacking from the back.

    COYS!

  40. Ki ki Says:

Bent: “He hasn’t done anything significant” ???

He managed to make all us Mighty Arsenal fans smile when he fluffed that one on one during his first nl derby.

    Still makes me chuckle !
