Lessons from Levy
It’s very easy to dislike Daniel Levy. It’s easy to dislike most chairman of football clubs. The only likeable one that crosses my mind is Steve Gibson of ‘Boro after last year’s famous correspondence with a football fan. But think of most chairman and you get smarmy business lying through their teeth under the awkward pressure of a television camera and questions they just don’t want to answer…

…to name but a few.
It’s almost worse for poor old General Levy as every single article about the Spurs Supremo seems to carry the same stock photo which makes him look like Dr. Evil, doing for spectacles what Mike Myers did for little fingers…

…three cockerels on display though; nice touch but let’s give the guy a break. He took a lot of flack over the way the board handled the MJ saga and The Bagel, like most other fans, felt ashamed at the callous, ruthless and, yes, even cowardly nature of his actions, but the man made some good points yesterday in a whole round of interviews he made. He said:
“People say I should apologise, but I don’t hear anyone talking about Martin going for two jobs while he was here. No-one has had a go at him. Have I got an apology?”
Now, the memories of links with Ajax job spring to mind.
“We are in the football business and I completely understand that he went to talk to club X while he was still here, that’s just the way it is.”
Fair enough and I’m glad to see that he’s not in this game to make friends. He wants success and it’s fortunate that he’s not as sentimental as we are, and if you thought his right hand man was protected then, Damien Comolli, think again…
“He has recommended Juande Ramos, clearly he will have to take responsibility if it doesn’t work, but I have every confidence it will.”
And it’s not just the coaching staff that have been told how it is. Quite astutely, General Levy has all of the players on long term contracts so no one can leave without the handing over of serious cash; all that is, except one…
“Actions speak louder than words. Jermain has to make a decision in the next few weeks as to whether he’s committed to staying.”
“That’s what he says to me and to the fans, so I very much hope he’ll sign a new contract.”
Hard to tell what the Little Yiddo’s going to do. He’s got all the support and cash that he needs at Spurs but is he really going to get the football he wants elsewhere? He may have accepted that he’s never going to play more for a Champions League club but, instead then, he may just opt for week-in-week out football at any reasonable Premier League outfit.
Reading’s not far away, Martin O’Neill’s always been a fan, Blackburn or Everton may let him lead the line; options he has and just because he bumps into Levy in the corridors and tells him what he wants to hear, it doesn’t mean that’s what he’s going to do. How many times have you sat in an interview pretending to be as enthusiastic or committed to the cause as the person across the table? How many times have you told your boss about the upcoming months’ work, all the while knowing you’ll be handing in you notice? Indeed actions do speak louder than words. What action will the Little Yiddo be taking?
Throw me a frickin’ bagel here.

Nice to hear some straight talking from our chairman for once.
It was so annoying last week to watch Steve McLaren at his press conference go on about how fantastic his players had been. Why didn’t he just come out and say that they all played like a bunch of cunts and he tactically got it wrong?
The reason McLaren didn’t is because he is thinking about the next job offer that might come his way. Tosser!
So why is Levy now being candid with his opinions?

I think the image of the club took a terrible blow over MJ-gate and the big guy was made a martyr by the press. They must have decided it was time show their own players, future players, us and the rest of the football supporting public that they’re not quite the bad guys they’ve been made out to be - straight talking version of a charm offence.

It’d be even more charming if the chairman commits our future to WHL with an excellent new design for the ground.
And maybe he could chin Hill-Wood and the other scum in a few weeks time?
Now that’s my kind of chairman.
