Arsene’s England
England manager, Arsene Wenger, fresh from his decision to take Theo Walcott to Germany 2006, has decided that he’ll be starting Robocrouch up front as a lone striker, with no place for either Sergei Bent or the Little Yiddo. He said:
“In these games when you are a manager you are tempted to play with a bit of security with players who know what it means not to make a mistake.”
Well, if you say so Arsene, you’re the boss. He’s also keeping the faith with Robbo instead of Scott Carson.
“That debate is going on in England and nobody has found an obvious solution apart from Paul Robinson.”
High praise indeed.
Of course, should Sven’s bib ‘n cone man wake up and decide that he’s the one in charge, he may chose to play Bent instead of Plug from the Bash Street Kids.

Plug

Crouch
Yeah, Peter’s tried and tested and no, I’ve nothing against the guy but Dazza’s made a career out of playing the lone striker. He’s faster, he’s stronger and with all that service behind him, I’d wager he’d be more of a threat. On a personal level, it’d do wonders for his confidence to slot the goals that take his country top of the group and through to the European Championships. I understand that a gutless McClaren would never dare make such a move and if he does bring on our record signing it’ll be when times are desperate in a 4-4-2 after we’ve gone behind with only 10 minutes to go. Actually, in fairness, it’s probably the sensible decision. Crouch’ll deliver and if he doesn’t I’m sure Messrs Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard will give him a hand.
Meanwhlie, back at the ranch, reports are in that Juande is insisting upon the purchase of Julio ‘The Beast’ Baptista and the reckoning is that that’s going to cost us around £11m smackers, the price that Real were prepared to take last summer. Ah, that’d be money well spent. Yes, let’s buy a moody, player in a position we don’t really need, with a proven dislike of London, who didn’t exactly ignite the English game last time around.
The other way to look at it is that 26-year-old played his best football under JR when he became The Beast of Sevilla, scoring 38 goals in 68 appearances - not bad. His major use could be as an attacking midfielder and direct competition for JJ. At 6′0″ and 13.5st he makes a pretty damn solid target and a different kind of attacker but…well…he’d be useful but we just don’t bloody need him. Left winger, central and defensive midfielder or just play better with what we’ve got; does nobody hear our cry?
But if we’re talking players for the future, now that’s a different matter. Damien Comolli’s roving eye has landed up Reading owned, Bournemouth loaned, 18-year-old, James Henry (no relation to Ron or Thierry) and along with Chelsea, we’re looking to get our mitts on this right winger/central midfielder. The young adult is big for a flank player at 6′1″ and 12st and is no stranger to the onion bag with 2 goals on his first appearance for the League 1 outfit the other day. Here’s his head…

…doing some sterling work even while the opposition player searchers for a suitable kidney donor for this wife.
God knows how good this kid actually is but with both the English and Scottish U19 squads after his arse, it’s likely he’s got something about him. Perhaps will soon be seeing for ourselves.
I……bagel………..again!
The Bagel.
