Martin Jol & the Loch Ness Monster
Was MJ’s job offered to Juande Ramos? Whatever happened to Lord Lucan? Was Jack the Ripper in fact the Loch Ness Monster and how many members of East 17 does it take to change a light bulb? Such mysteries of the world we will never truly know the answer to although I suspect they are: no, he just died in some gutter, I seriously doubt it and 4 - one to do all the work and he other 3 to stand in the background striking a bunch of cockney gangster poses.
To elaborate on the first and only just the most important of these conundrums as far as this blog is concerned - although I do fancy a crack act No.3 - I would think that there were no direct talks between Spurs and Ramos but some kind of middle man passed the word to Sevilla boss that we’d show him ours if he showed us his. That’s about as far as it seems to have gone but the press got hold of it and suddenly there’s a whole chicken’s worth of egg on the faces of the Tottenham board.
With Levy coming out again last night in support of MJ and denying all claims of the offer to any other boss whatsoever it looks to have all calmed down for now but who knows Juande soon a new manager may still arrive. See, what did there? No? Don’t like that one? Ok, I’ve got more.
Of course the other end of the stick is that MJ may not want to stay. Why should he? He’s been treated like shit but most of all, well and truly undermined. How effective a manager can he be if the idea that he is leaving at the end of the season or sooner is in the back of his and the players’ minds? Were this a week or two early I’d say sack him now and pay what it takes for Ramos. There, I’ve said it.
I love the man from the bottom of my Lillywhite crumbs but we’re just left in an impossible situation like a drawn out death. Better to get a new man with his own inner confidence and belief and respect from the board. The fans may not like it but we’d forget our pain as soon as stability was brought to the club once more. There’s probably still just about time to do it, although it looks pretty clear that that’s not what’s going to happen. Imagine Daniel Levy turning around now in a third interview to the press going back on everything he’s already said this week. I wouldn’t but it passed any club chairman but somehow I can’t see it right now.
So, instead we’re left with option two - the long shot that might just work; after all it so nearly did for us a few seasons ago at Old Trafford, courtesy of one Pedro Mendes and it worked a treat for Nayim from the half way line. When the dressing room doors close on MJ and the boys, the whole world outside will be against them; Manchester United, the press, other fans and even the Tottenham board. All they have is themselves and the Tottenham faithful shaking the walls of Old Trafford with their songs. Imagine him giving a talk to the boys, a rousing speech of strength and unity to chorus upon chorus of ‘I love Martin Jol’ coming from the stands. Even the beleaguered Paul Robinson would have to raise his head from his hands; the sort of stirring stuff that dreams are made on.

With Man U having no ronaldoony and sweating hard at the wrong end of the table, is this a good time to be playing them? Or is there nothing worse than playing a Manu who need to pick up the pace? Who’s under more pressure? Manu or Spurs? Chewing gum machine or jol-ly green giant?
Don’t know why I’m asking really as I’m off on holiday for two weeks and wont see anyone’s reply - but I can’t decide…
And surprise suprise, Betbatov linked with Manu again - just before they play spurs… again. The usual bulshit?

I hope it is… According to whichever rag you read, either Berbatov, Defoe or both are off…
And, apparently, I was more accurate with my comparison to Newcastle than I thought, as their owner Mike Ashley is considering a bid for Spurs*
*Caution, this detail was in the Express, and therefore probably part of a Diana conspiracy.

unlucky loss against united today, we played very well and probably should have won, great strike from nani, even though tevez did get a little nick on it.
