On that subject:

Norwegian shipping billionaire John Fredriksen is understood to be one of the people interested in buying Tottenham. (Daily Mail)

Now I know of this guy, I saw a programme on him. He is nice, loves sport and obviously rich - But what does the report mean "one of the people interested"..are there more???

Come on, who's read the daily mail?...Speak up!

In terms of wages, this summer/next season really is make or break for us. If Levy and co. splash the cash on securing some top talent this summer, allowing us to crack the Top 4 next season, then next summer's transfer season will be a much quieter affair. Hopefully Champions League football at the Lane will inspire Berbatov (and lennon, daws, new left winger, etc..) to stay. Once we're there, with a top class squad, we'll be able to devote our would-be transfer kitty to paying higher wages to keep our players happy, since shaving a few million off our transfer budget won't matter as much at that point.

If we fail to make the step up, next summer will see us waving goodbye to Berba and heading back to square one. Should that be the case, like G says our 45,000 wage cap could prove a huge stumbling block in attracting the talent needed to make another assault on the top 4.

Nothing on Kaboul as yet. I'm thinking there's another player involved in that one.

Interesting point on the wage cap, G and yes, eventually, we could well get left behind. It's less the retaining of players I'd be worried about and more the getting them in the first place. Obviously, once familiar with Spurs, any player would play for free.

But the problem aside the filthy money fingers of it is this:

Let's say we do a Newcastle and pay Berbaov £70,000, for arguments sake, £20,000 extra per week. So over the year that works out as an extra million. That's one million less we have to spend on transfers.

Now maybe that doesn't sound like much but if we give an extra £20,000 a few more players that deserve it, that really starts to add up.

We're going to lose out somewhere. So it seems to be a bit of a balancing act between the two. Tricky stuff unless you're oligarch or Leeds.

Berbatov knew full well he would be gettin 22 K a week before he agreed to sign with us and for me that shows he came for the football not for the money. Yes we probably should increase his wages but as reward for playing so well not simply to keep him at the club. Also is there any word on the Kaboul transfer?

On a more serious note...

Do you think it's possible to break into the top 4 with a wage cap of £45k a week? How can we hope to retain real quality stars like Dimitar the Great when any one of the 'big 4' can double his wages without causing so much as a stir in their dressing rooms? What with the latest influx of TV cash, wages are still only going one way, and that £45k ceiling's gonna soon look pretty unappealing compared to what the top 4, never mind 'we hate money so much we happily give it way' newcastle, can offer.

The verbal abuse Ribery would get if he signed for the scum. I shudder to think.

I'm already composing a few ditties just in case.

By the way Bagel, what's French for "the bells"?
