I love John Gregory

But more on that in a minute. Don’t worry, it’s purely platonic, well on The Bagel’s part anyway.

The bad new of the day is that as I’m sure we were all beginning to realise, the injury to Ledley’s foot is a little more serious than had been thought. A bruise it may well have started as but now, under the strain of the first stages of training, it’s turned in to a stress fracture. Never has there been a more aptly named condition. We’ll all be feeling the heat and counting every day until it heals and I hope you’re good at maths because the word on the street is that it’s going to take eight long Leddersless weeks.

It’s his fourth metatarsal that’s been broken. That doesn’t been he’s done it three times before but that the name of the bone is the ‘fourth metatarsal’. It’s the one that connects your second smallest toe to the rest of your body. Here, have a look…

…where it says fourth. I believe it’s the same one Rooney did.

Speaking of the man/potato, we do of course get the dubious pleasure of his company at the Lane tomorrow as well, of course, as old boy Michael Carrick and the sort of team sheet that makes you want to run for the hills. The Champions elect are really looking the business right now and it’s going to be interesting to see what our boys make of the challenge after this week’s disappointment.

MJ’s been lamenting the loss of our ex-midfielder and I think it’s about time I admitted the same. Big Bad Tom’s got plenty of promise but he’s not got that glossy finish just yet and it’s a force we’ve really been missing in the middle of the park.

“We’ve realised we miss Michael Carrick,” Jol told The Current Bun.

“His biggest quality was to move play from defence to attack and win the ball. Because of him, other players played better.”

Anyone who witnessed Robbie Keane’s renaissance in the second half of last season will agree whole heartedly with that but fear not. I’ve a feeling that Didier Zee’s just doing a little first season teething as I’m positive is Shevchenko and as did Drogba before them. All in good time.

I’d like so see Michael get a warm welcome on his return and I mean that with all sincerity. He was a great player for us and not a peep out of his mouth when he left; no parting shots at all. Let’s hope he keeps it the same in front of our goal.

I don’t know if you noticed but there was one bit of business we did at the end of the transfer window. It was one so small that it sort of snuck in through the cracks as the last draft breathed through. Meet Dean Parrett. It’s ok Dean, don’t be shy. Now everyone say, ‘hello.’ Here’s his head…

…and your eyes are not deceiving you, he’s already in an England shirt. It’s a size Under 16 and with Ryan Mason and Adam Smith both in that squad with him, that makes us the best represented club at for that level.

“He is an extremely talented young player who has that rare combination of pace, aggression and creativity,” so says Damien Comolli.

Apparently, he plays wide right, wide left and central. So, if we can just teach him to keep goal we’ve got the perfect model for a cloned Yid Army. Looks like a very good prospect.

Oh yes, so why does The Bagel love John Gregory? Well, we bought the 15 year old from QPR and their manager had this to say:

“It’s a win-win situation for all parties.

For us to turn down the chance for Dean to sign for Tottenham would have been wrong. His dad is a huge Spurs fan, so in a way it’s a dream move for them.

We’ve been compensated financially for it, we don’t deny that, but at the end of the day everyone comes out of the situation winning.

We’ve won, Spurs have got their player and Dean has got a tremendous future at one of the greatest clubs in the country.”

Need I say more?

I rest my bagel.

The Bagel.
